Raipur: NHPC Limited has signed a 40-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL) for the supply of electricity from its upcoming 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.
The agreement was signed in Raipur on July 14, 2026, and will remain effective for 40 years from the project’s Commercial Operation Date (COD). The PPA will enable NHPC to supply clean hydroelectric power to Chhattisgarh, strengthening the state’s long-term electricity supply and supporting India’s clean energy transition.
NHPC and CSPDCL Sign Long-Term Hydropower Supply Agreement
The Power Purchase Agreement was signed by Ranjeet Thakur, General Manager (Commercial), NHPC, and V.K. Sai, Executive Director (Regulatory Affairs & Power Management), CSPDCL, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.
The agreement is aimed at providing Chhattisgarh with a reliable and sustainable source of hydroelectric power to meet its future energy requirements.
The latest agreement adds Chhattisgarh to the list of states that have secured long-term power supply arrangements from NHPC’s upcoming Kamala Hydro Electric Project.
Kamala Hydro Electric Project to Strengthen Northeast Hydropower Development
The Kamala Hydro Electric Project, with an installed capacity of 1,720 MW, is being developed in Arunachal Pradesh and is expected to play an important role in expanding hydropower generation capacity in the northeastern region.
The project will contribute to India’s renewable energy capacity by providing clean and reliable electricity while supporting grid stability and sustainable power generation.
NHPC Expands Long-Term Power Purchase Agreements
The PPA with CSPDCL is part of NHPC’s efforts to secure long-term power offtake arrangements for the Kamala Hydro Electric Project before its commissioning.
In recent weeks, NHPC has entered into similar 40-year agreements with other states:
- Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL): NHPC signed a 40-year PPA on July 10, 2026, in Agartala for power procurement from the Kamala project.
- Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL): NHPC signed a 40-year agreement on June 30, 2026, in Vadodara.
These agreements highlight NHPC’s strategy to build long-term partnerships with states and strengthen the role of hydropower in India’s energy mix.

Speaking on the occasion, NHPC Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta said the agreement marks another significant milestone in the company’s commitment to expanding sustainable hydropower capacity.
He stated that such initiatives will help accelerate India’s clean energy transition and contribute to long-term energy security.
