Bhopal: Police in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district arrested Shivanjay Rajput, an accused in the spurious liquor case, after he was injured in an exchange of fire with police early on September 13, according to the police.
Rajput, who carried a ₹30,000 reward, allegedly opened fire at a police team during an operation near a forested area close to Madaya. Police said they retaliated, and one of the rounds hit him in the leg. He was subsequently taken into custody and shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Police Said Accused Fired Three Rounds
According to the police account, Bahrol police received information early on September 13 that Rajput was present in a forest area near Madaya and could attempt to travel towards his home in Chhapri under Banda police station limits.

Following the information, police teams from nearby stations were deployed and the area was cordoned off.

Country-Made Pistol, Ammunition Seized
Police said they recovered the following items from Rajput:
- One 315-bore country-made pistol
- Three live cartridges
- Three empty cartridges
- One mobile phone
- One motorcycle
Police also said Rajput had previously been involved in liquor smuggling and that three criminal cases were registered against him.
Action Follows Earlier Arrest in Liquor Case
The development comes two days after police reportedly injured and arrested another accused, Ravi Lakhera, in a similar police firing incident connected with the Sagar spurious liquor case.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has directed authorities to take strict action against those accused in the case and has said that negligence in connection with the incident would not be tolerated.
The state government has described its approach to the case as one of zero tolerance, while police action against the accused continues.
