Inspector Sunil Kumar of the Uttar Pradesh Police has been posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra for his exceptional bravery during an encounter with members of the notorious Mukim Kala gang in Shamli district.
The STF inspector was killed in the encounter after he and his team confronted the gang’s criminals. Four gang members, including Arshad, were gunned down during the operation. Inspector Sunil Kumar continued to lead the operation despite the grave danger and made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Kirti Chakra Presented to Martyr’s Family
On Independence Day, Meerut Zone ADG Bhanu Bhaskar visited Masuri village and presented the prestigious gallantry award to Inspector Sunil Kumar’s family.
The ADG said this is the first time in the history of the Uttar Pradesh Police that a police personnel has received the Kirti Chakra. He said Sunil Kumar’s courage and sacrifice would remain an inspiration for police personnel across the state.
The officer had faced armed criminals without backing down, helping his team eliminate four members of the notorious gang before losing his life during the encounter.
CM Yogi Calls Honour a Matter of Pride
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute to Inspector Sunil Kumar on Independence Day, calling the award a proud moment for Uttar Pradesh.
He said the conferment of the Kirti Chakra on the STF inspector marked a significant moment for the state police. The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order and pursuing its zero-tolerance policy against crime.
Police Force Remembers Fallen Officer
The martyrdom of Inspector Sunil Kumar has been remembered across the Uttar Pradesh Police as an example of courage in the face of armed criminals. His family received the national gallantry award in recognition of the sacrifice he made while carrying out his duty.
The Kirti Chakra honour places his name among those recognised for exceptional bravery and sacrifice in the service of the nation.
