Maharashtra Transfers Senior IPS Officers Across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai; Key Postings Announced
Indian Masterminds Stories

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Thursday carried out a major reshuffle in the state police administration, transferring 41 police officers, including several Indian Police Service (IPS) and State Police Service (SPS) officers across key postings in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Nashik, Nagpur, Pune and other regions.

The transfers include seven officers of the rank of Special Inspector General (IG), several DIG-rank officers, Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), and Superintendents of Police (SPs).

The Home Department also revised and cancelled some transfer orders issued earlier this month, with 16 previously announced IPS transfers being modified. Fourteen officers were given fresh postings, while two officers are yet to receive new assignments.

Officials said the reshuffle has been undertaken to strengthen law and order management, improve coordination and streamline policing across sensitive urban and rural regions.

Praveen Padwal Shifted to VIP Security

Senior IPS officer Praveen Padwal, who was serving as Special Inspector General, Nashik Range, has been transferred and posted as Special IG, VIP Security.

IPS officer Sharda Raut, whose posting was pending, has now been posted as Special IG (Prevention of Atrocities on Women).

Ramnath Pokale, earlier Special IG, Amravati, has been transferred as Special IG (Planning and Coordination), while Mahesh Patil has been posted as the new IG of Amravati.

Major Changes in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai

Several key postings were reshuffled in Mumbai Metropolitan Region police units.

  • Amarsingh Jadhav, who was serving as DCP in Thane City, has been transferred as Superintendent of Police, Dial-112, Navi Mumbai.
  • Vivek Pansare has been shifted from Mumbai City to Thane City as DCP.
  • Balasaheb Patil has also been transferred from Mumbai City to Thane City as DCP.
  • Nilesh Sonawane has been moved from Wireless Marine Division, Navi Mumbai, and appointed as DCP in Thane City.

  • Punjabrao Ugle has been appointed Joint Commissioner of Police, Thane City.
  • Shivaji Rathod and Ashok Dudhe have been appointed as Additional Commissioners of Police in Thane City.
  • Pramod Shewale has been posted as Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Navi Mumbai.
  • Vinay Kumar Rathod has been appointed Superintendent of Police, Thane Rural district.

ATS, Crime Branch and Special Units See Changes

The reshuffle also brought changes in Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), crime branches and special units.

  • Sambhaji Kadam has been appointed Superintendent of Police, ATS Pune.
  • Himmat Jadhav has been assigned responsibility in the Narcotics Task Force, Pune.
  • Vinita Sahu has been posted as DIG, State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Mumbai.
  • Ravindra Pardeshi has been appointed Commander, SRPF Group-1, Pune.

Some Earlier Transfers Cancelled

The government also cancelled certain transfers announced last week.

The transfer of Akbar Pathan from Mumbai Operations to Nashik Range was revoked.

Officials confirmed that IPS officers Kumath Chintha and Nityanand Jha are yet to receive fresh postings following cancellation of their earlier transfer orders.

Reshuffle Aimed at Strengthening Police Administration

Officials in the Home Department said the latest reshuffle is intended to strengthen police administration, improve operational efficiency, and enhance coordination in key urban policing units and sensitive law-and-order zones across Maharashtra.

The transfers are also being viewed as part of a broader administrative exercise to reorganise leadership positions in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and other strategically important police formations.
