His academic background in aerospace engineering was different from the conventional law-enforcement career he subsequently pursued in Odisha.

Jagmohan Meena’s IPS Career in Odisha

Meena spent his entire IPS career in the Odisha cadre, serving in several district and commissionerate assignments.

His early field posting included Superintendent of Police (SP), Malkangiri. The official IPS civil list records him as SP, Malkangiri in 2017.

  • SP, Angul
  • SP, Ganjam
  • DCP, Cuttack

The official IPS civil lists and Odisha Police records document his progression through these assignments.

From Ganjam SP to Cuttack DCP

Meena was transferred from SP, Ganjam, to DCP, Cuttack in September 2024 and formally took charge of the commissionerate post on October 1, 2024.

At Cuttack, he spoke about strengthening police-public relations and improving the interaction between police personnel and complainants.

The 2025 IPS civil list records him as DCP, Cuttack, with the posting beginning in October 2024.

Meena took charge as DCP, Bhubaneswar, on February 28, 2025, becoming responsible for policing in Odisha’s capital city.

As DCP, his responsibilities included maintaining law and order, crime prevention and investigation, and overseeing policing operations across Bhubaneswar.

The Odisha Police website also listed him as DCP, Bhubaneswar, before his resignation took effect.

At the time, he described the decision as personal and said it was taken after discussions with his family and friends. He also said it was not an emotional decision and requested that his privacy be respected.

He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in Odisha and for the support he received from people across the state.

There has been speculation in media reports about his possible plans after leaving government service, including a possible move to the private sector. However, no official confirmation of his future employment has been made by Meena or the government, so those reports should not be treated as confirmed.

Resignation Becomes Effective From September 11

The resignation was initially submitted to the Odisha government and subsequently processed through the state and Union authorities.

The final acceptance by the President means Meena’s exit from the Indian Police Service became effective on September 11, 2026. The Ministry of Home Affairs notification formally records the acceptance.

His resignation also leaves the post of Bhubaneswar DCP to be filled by the Odisha government. Reports indicate that the state is considering arrangements for his successor.

More Than 13 Years in the IPS

Meena’s departure marks the end of a career that began with his appointment to the IPS in December 2013 and included policing assignments across several parts of Odisha.

From Malkangiri and Angul to Ganjam, Cuttack and finally Bhubaneswar, his career included both district-level policing and commissionerate assignments before he chose to leave the service in 2026.

With the President’s acceptance of his resignation, Jagmohan Meena is no longer serving as an IPS officer, bringing his Odisha Police career to a formal close.
