Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered 3,257 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested more than 4,000 people since April as part of the Union Territory’s anti-drug campaign, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, a 1992-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, said.
Addressing participants at the ‘Run for Unity’ event in Srinagar, Prabhat said the campaign had also resulted in 170 convictions and the disposal of more than 2,500 cases. The campaign was launched on April 11 by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha from Jammu.

Prabhat also highlighted action against assets allegedly linked to the drug trade. He said 288 properties valued at around ₹138 crore had been attached and ₹80 lakh in cash had been seized.
144 Booked Under PIT-NDPS Act
The DGP further said 144 accused persons had been booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.
Prabhat said Jammu and Kashmir currently ranked first in the country in terms of the number of properties attached in connection with the drug trade. He also described the 144 PIT-NDPS bookings as the highest figure among states and Union Territories.
DGP Links Anti-Drug Drive With Youth Outreach
The anti-drug campaign is being conducted under the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’, which focuses on addressing substance abuse among young people.
Speaking about youth participation in police initiatives, Prabhat said:
“Our youngsters are committed to peace and a bright future. They prefer peace over violence, progress over destruction, and have embarked on a journey from darkness to light.”
He said young people were participating in activities organised by the J&K Police and that their involvement was being encouraged through various initiatives.
Prabhat also referred to the police force’s work in crime prevention, criminal detection and maintaining law and order alongside counter-terrorism operations.
Anti-Drug Action Continues Alongside Other Police Operations
The DGP said the police continued to conduct counter-terror operations while working on crime prevention, detection and law-and-order duties.
“September has been a time of immense pride, marked by numerous operational achievements,” Prabhat said, adding that the force had made progress beyond counter-terror operations in other areas of policing.
The anti-drug campaign therefore remains one component of the broader policing activities highlighted by the J&K Police during the event.
