Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police Director General Nalin Prabhat, a 1992-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, urged newly appointed gazetted police officers to understand the responsibility associated with wearing the uniform and serving the people.
Prabhat was speaking at a ceremony at Lok Bhavan, Srinagar, where Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha handed over appointment letters to newly selected officers of the J&K Police (Gazetted) Service. The Jammu and Kashmir Government has appointed 29 officers as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) through direct recruitment under the Combined Competitive Examination-2024.
DGP Calls Uniform a Responsibility
Congratulating the newly appointed officers, Prabhat said their appointment marked not only a moment of celebration for them and their families but also the beginning of a demanding professional responsibility.

He urged them to maintain integrity and commitment while discharging their duties.
“Uniform is our responsibility. We have to work with honesty, loyalty and patriotism while wearing this uniform,” he said.
The DGP also cautioned the officers that police service could involve challenging situations, including circumstances that may put their lives at risk.
Rigorous Training to Prepare Officers for Challenges
Prabhat assured the new officers that their training at the police academy would prepare them to deal with the physical and mental demands of police service.
The training is expected to prepare them for:
- Challenging operational situations
- Physical and mental demands of police service
- Responsibilities associated with police leadership
- Situations involving risks to life
“You will be trained in such a way that you will be able to stand the test on every front, mentally as well as physically,” Prabhat said.
He said he would interact with the officers in greater detail after they join the academy and wished them success as they begin their careers in the police service.
29 DySPs Join J&K Police Gazetted Service
The newly appointed officers were selected through the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission’s Combined Competitive Examination-2024.
The appointments were sanctioned through a General Administration Department order issued on September 15, 2026, following recommendations of the JKPSC.
The appointment ceremony marked the beginning of their induction into the J&K Police Gazetted Service, with mandatory police training to follow.
