The CJI called the viral quote “baseless,” “fraudulent,” and “malicious,” while warning that strict legal action could be taken against those spreading the misinformation.

A post circulated on X from the handle “@UnreservedMERIT” allegedly carried a caste-related Hindi statement along with the image of CJI Surya Kant.

The post quickly gained attention online and sparked debate on social media. However, the Chief Justice’s office officially clarified that:

  • The statement was completely fake
  • CJI Surya Kant never made such remarks
  • The content was falsely attributed to him

According to official statements, the quote did not represent the CJI’s words, opinions, or character.

In a strong response, CJI Surya Kant stated:

These assertions, which have been fraudulently attributed to me, are entirely baseless and do not reflect my words, views, or character.”

He further warned that the judiciary would not tolerate the spread of fabricated and defamatory content.

Reports also stated that the Chief Justice is prepared to use the “full might of the law” against those involved in creating or circulating the fake quote.
