In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Karnataka government on Thursday transferred several senior IPS officers posted in the coastal districts, including Mangaluru City Police Commissioner and the Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police. The changes come in the wake of escalating communal tensions following two murders reported in the Dakshina Kannada region within a month.
Dr Arun K, who was serving as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Udupi district, has now been appointed as the new SP of Dakshina Kannada, replacing SP N Yathish.
In another key change, Anupam Agrawal, the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner, has been transferred and posted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Economic Offences, CID. He will be succeeded by Sudheer Kumar Reddy, who takes charge as the new Police Commissioner of Mangaluru City.
Meanwhile, Hariram Shankar has been posted as the new Superintendent of Police for the Udupi district, filling the vacancy left by Arun K’s transfer.
This reshuffle is viewed as a strategic move by the state government to restore public confidence and enhance law enforcement capabilities in the communally sensitive coastal belt.
Though the Home Department has not issued an official reason for the transfers, government sources indicate that the changes aim to ensure tighter law and order control and to bring experienced leadership into areas facing increasing communal polarization.
