New Delhi: Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL) has commenced exploratory drilling at the Khetri Copper Complex tailing pond as part of its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL). The drilling operation focuses on assessing the presence of critical minerals within mine tailings, marking a significant step toward the scientific evaluation of secondary mineral resources.

The drilling activity was launched in the presence of Hindustan Copper officials and is being conducted under the administrative supervision of MECL’s Mundi Project. This initiative reflects a growing emphasis on sustainable resource management and informed decision-making in the mining sector.

Expanding Exploration to Malanjkhand Copper Project

Under the same collaborative framework, MECL plans to conduct similar assessment studies at the Malanjkhand Copper Project. By expanding the scope of exploration beyond conventional mineral deposits, the company aims to evaluate secondary mineral resources that could play a crucial role in India’s critical and strategic minerals strategy.

These studies are expected to provide valuable insights into mine tailings as a potential source of critical minerals, which can support sustainable utilization and reduce dependence on newly mined resources.
