Bilaspur: A regional media delegation comprising journalists from Bhubaneswar and Uttarakhand visited South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) to gain first-hand insights into the company’s mining operations, energy security initiatives and sustainable development efforts.
The exposure visit was facilitated by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) in collaboration with its Raipur, Bhubaneswar and Uttarakhand offices.
Media Delegation Visits SECL Headquarters
The delegation visited the SECL Headquarters in Bilaspur, where company officials briefed the journalists on various aspects of coal mining and the organisation’s activities.
The briefing covered:
- Mining operations and coal production
- Mine safety measures
- Technology adoption in mining
- Environmental sustainability initiatives
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
- Community welfare programmes

Journalists Visit Gevra Area
As part of the exposure visit, the media delegation also visited Gevra Area, which houses Asia’s largest coal mine.
During the visit, journalists observed mining and coal extraction activities and gained an understanding of the operational processes involved in large-scale coal mining.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the delegation to see the technology and infrastructure used in mining operations and coal transportation.
Environmental Sustainability Initiatives Showcased
SECL officials also highlighted the company’s efforts towards environmental sustainability during the visit.
The delegation was briefed about environmental initiatives, including Miyawaki plantation, aimed at increasing green cover and supporting ecological development.
The journalists also reviewed SECL’s efforts to balance mining activities with environmental protection and sustainable development.

An interactive question-and-answer session was also organised during the exposure visit.
