Kanwardeep Kaur who is a 2013-batch Punjab cadre IPS officer has been appointed as the SSP of Chandigarh.She is only the second women cop to be posted as SSP, Chandigarh after Nilambari Jagdale.
Ms. Kaur is currently the SSP of Ferozepur and has previously served as the SSP of Kapurthala and Malerkotla. She hails from Mohail and graduated from Punjab Engineering College (PEC). Her appointment comes nearly three months after the post fell vacant due to the repatriation of previous SSP, Kuldeep Singh Chahal, in December 2022 over allegations of misconduct. A CBI probe into the allegations is underway.
After his repatriation, a 2009-batch officer Ms. Manisha Chaudhary was given additional charge as SSP UT along with SSP (Traffic and Security). For the first time Chandigarhwill have women police officers as SSP UT and SSP (Traffic and Security).
