New Delhi: Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under the Ministry of Coal have achieved significant milestones under Special Campaign 6, advancing cleanliness, efficient waste management, better space utilisation and streamlined administrative processes across their offices and establishments.
With the implementation phase scheduled to continue until October 31, 2026, the campaign has delivered results beyond its initial targets in several key areas. These efforts have helped improve workplace environments, unlock valuable office space, generate revenue through scrap disposal and strengthen record management.
Special Campaign 6 Exceeds Site Cleaning Targets
Under Special Campaign 6, coal sector CPSEs cleaned 1,696 sites, exceeding the initial target of 1,565 sites.
The campaign covered a total area of 130.16 lakh square feet, surpassing the target of 101.80 lakh square feet. The achievement reflects the CPSEs’ focus on improving cleanliness, maintaining organised workspaces and making more effective use of available office space.
The nationwide initiative aims to make cleanliness an integral part of institutional functioning while encouraging sustainable workplace practices.
Scrap Disposal Generates ₹53.94 Crore in Revenue
Efficient scrap disposal has been another major outcome of Special Campaign 6, delivering both economic and environmental benefits.
The coal sector CPSEs disposed of 16,158 metric tonnes of scrap, exceeding the target of 10,909 metric tonnes.
The disposal generated revenue of ₹53,94,62,602.45, or approximately ₹53.94 crore, for the exchequer.
The results highlight the importance of systematic waste management in recovering value from discarded materials, reducing clutter and promoting more responsible resource utilisation.
File Management and Digitisation Improve Administrative Efficiency
Special Campaign 6 has also strengthened administrative efficiency through the review, closure and weeding out of physical and electronic files.
Officials reviewed 78,635 physical files and e-files, against a target of 59,593. A total of 70,093 files were weeded out and closed.
These measures are intended to simplify record management, reduce the accumulation of unnecessary paperwork and support more efficient office procedures.
The campaign’s focus on digitisation and systematic record handling also contributes to improved governance and a more productive work environment.
Key Best Practices Under Special Campaign 6
Coal sector CPSEs have introduced several initiatives to promote cleanliness, sustainability, employee welfare and community development. Notable examples include the following:
1. SECL Develops an E-Waste Collection Bin Using Recycled Materials
South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has fabricated an e-waste collection bin using recycled scrap materials at its headquarters.
The bin has been installed to facilitate the systematic collection and segregation of electronic waste. The initiative supports the campaign’s objective of effective e-waste collection, segregation and disposal, while demonstrating how discarded materials can be repurposed for practical use.
2. CIL Headquarters Canteen Modernised and Renamed Cilantro
Coal India Limited (CIL) has renovated and modernised its headquarters canteen, which has been renamed Cilantro.
The upgraded canteen was inaugurated on October 5, 2026, following a comprehensive renovation. The project improved the canteen’s infrastructure and ambience, with the aim of providing employees with a more hygienic, comfortable and employee-friendly dining environment.
The initiative reflects the campaign’s focus on improving workplace facilities and maintaining cleaner common areas.
3. WCL Supports Education for More Than 160 Tribal Girls
Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) extended educational and basic facility support to more than 160 girl students at Mata Sabri Balika Awasiya Shiksha Parisar in Parasia, Chhindwara.
The beneficiaries are primarily from tribal and mining-area communities. The initiative aims to support their educational needs and help them pursue higher education.
The programme highlights the role of coal sector CPSEs in supporting community development alongside their operational responsibilities.
4. WCL Organises ‘Waste to Wonder’ Workshops for Children
WCL organised interactive ‘Waste to Wonder’ workshops for children to encourage creative recycling and environmental awareness.
The workshops introduced children to the concept of transforming waste materials into useful or creative items. The initiative seeks to promote responsible waste management from an early age and demonstrate how discarded materials can be reused rather than simply thrown away.
By combining creativity with environmental education, the workshops encourage children to adopt more sustainable habits.
5. CIL Installs Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines at Headquarters
To promote menstrual hygiene and improve workplace facilities, CIL installed sanitary napkin vending machines at its headquarters.
The initiative aims to improve access to menstrual hygiene products for women employees and visitors. It also supports the creation of a more inclusive, hygienic and women-friendly workplace.
The installation forms part of the broader effort to improve employee welfare and ensure that workplace cleanliness initiatives address practical needs.
Coal Sector CPSEs Advance Sustainable Workplace Practices
The achievements under Special Campaign 6 demonstrate the contribution of coal sector CPSEs to cleanliness, resource recovery and improved administrative systems.
From exceeding targets for site cleaning and scrap disposal to strengthening file management, the campaign has delivered measurable results. Initiatives such as recycled-material e-waste bins, modernised workplace facilities, educational support for tribal girls, recycling workshops and menstrual hygiene facilities further broaden its impact.
With the implementation phase continuing until October 31, 2026, the Ministry of Coal’s CPSEs are working towards institutionalising cleanliness, promoting sustainable practices and creating more efficient, organised and employee-friendly workplaces.
