Leadership Updates: MNVS Prabhakar Appointed CMD of RINL to Lead Modernisation and Expansion Drive

New Delhi: The Government of India has appointed MNVS Prabhakar as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, which operates the Vizag Steel Plant in Visakhapatnam.

The appointment was approved by the President of India based on the recommendation of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), as per an official order issued on May 8, 2026 by the Ministry of Steel.

Tenure and Official Terms of Appointment

According to the order, MNVS Prabhakar will assume charge in the pay scale of ₹80,000–₹1,25,000 (pre-revised) and will serve:

  • Until April 30, 2028 (superannuation), or
  • Until further government orders

The detailed service conditions will be issued separately.

Background of the New CMD

Before this appointment, Prabhakar was serving as Executive Director at NMDC Steel Limited.

His elevation is seen as a strategic move to strengthen leadership in India’s public sector steel industry during a crucial phase of restructuring and modernization.

  • Financial restructuring efforts
  • Capacity expansion plans

The order was circulated across key government and PSU bodies, including:

  • Ministry of Steel
  • Department of Public Enterprises
  • PESB (Public Enterprises Selection Board)
  • Senior PSU leadership

This reflects the government’s broader focus on strengthening public sector enterprises in the steel industry.

With the new leadership in place, focus will now shift to:

  • Financial stability and turnaround strategy
  • Expansion of production capacity
  • Modernisation of Vizag Steel Plant
  • Alignment with national steel growth goals
