Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav is set to release female cheetah CCB2 in Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary, marking another step in the state’s ongoing cheetah conservation and reintroduction efforts.

CCB2 has travelled from Botswana to Kuno National Park and will now be relocated to Gandhi Sagar. The cheetah reportedly adapted well to the conditions at Kuno before being selected for relocation to the new habitat.

The move is expected to strengthen cheetah conservation efforts in Gandhi Sagar and expand the geographical footprint of the cheetah reintroduction programme in Madhya Pradesh.

CCB2 to Move from Kuno to Gandhi Sagar

CCB2’s journey to Gandhi Sagar comes after her stay at Kuno National Park, where she adapted to the local conditions.

The relocation will provide the female cheetah with a new habitat at Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary and is being seen as an important step in expanding the cheetah conservation programme within Madhya Pradesh.

According to the information provided by the state government, CCB2 travelled to India from Botswana, was brought to Kuno and will now move to Gandhi Sagar.

Cheetah Population in Gandhi Sagar to Reach Four

With the relocation of CCB2, the number of cheetahs at Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary will increase to four.

The addition is expected to strengthen the sanctuary’s role in India’s cheetah conservation programme and create further opportunities for the species’ establishment in the region.

The development also reflects efforts to establish more than one suitable habitat for cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh.

Cheetah Conservation Efforts Gain Momentum in Madhya Pradesh

The relocation of CCB2 is part of the broader cheetah conservation and reintroduction efforts being undertaken in Madhya Pradesh.

The state government has highlighted the development as another milestone in the implementation of Project Cheetah, which aims to support the establishment of cheetah populations in suitable habitats.

Gandhi Sagar’s growing cheetah population is expected to give further momentum to conservation and habitat-management efforts in the sanctuary.

Gandhi Sagar to Play a Larger Role in Cheetah Conservation

The relocation of CCB2 will expand the presence of cheetahs in Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary and strengthen its role in the state’s conservation programme.

The initiative is expected to contribute to:

  • Expanding the cheetah population across suitable habitats.
  • Strengthening conservation and reintroduction efforts.
  • Supporting the development of Gandhi Sagar as a cheetah habitat.
  • Building experience in managing cheetahs across multiple landscapes.
  • Advancing long-term wildlife conservation efforts in Madhya Pradesh.

New Chapter in India’s Cheetah Conservation Programme

The movement of CCB2 from Kuno to Gandhi Sagar represents another stage in India’s cheetah conservation programme.

Her relocation is expected to help expand the programme beyond Kuno and support the development of additional habitats for the species.

With Gandhi Sagar’s cheetah population set to rise to four, the relocation marks a further step towards strengthening cheetah conservation infrastructure and efforts in Madhya Pradesh.
