Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government is set to begin recruitment for 1,500 posts in the Agriculture Department, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav announced at a programme held at Ravindra Bhavan in Bhopal on October 5. He also said the state government plans to fill one lakh new posts by next year, building on the 85,000 recruitments already made during the current government’s tenure.
The programme was organised by promoted government employees of the Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development Department to felicitate the Chief Minister. Dr Yadav inaugurated the event by lighting a ceremonial lamp and also handed over compassionate appointment letters to dependants of 44 deceased government employees from different departments.
1,500 Agriculture Posts to Be Filled
The announcement of 1,500 vacancies is expected to create fresh employment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh’s agriculture administration.
Dr Yadav said promotions would continue during the current year and that vacancies created after promotions would also be filled. He said the government is setting new targets to strengthen the workforce and ensure that vacant positions do not remain unfilled for long.
The Chief Minister also congratulated 3,357 government employees who have received promotions, while acknowledging that the promotion process should have taken place earlier.
The recruitment plan is significant for the Agriculture Department because of its direct connection with farmers and rural development. The department works at the field level on agriculture-related programmes, schemes and support systems.

Government Targets One Lakh New Jobs
Expanding the recruitment drive beyond the Agriculture Department, Dr Yadav said the state government has already provided employment to 85,000 people during its current tenure.
He announced a larger target for the coming period, saying that the government plans to recruit one lakh people in new posts by next year.
The announcement comes alongside the government’s effort to fill vacancies emerging from promotions. According to the Chief Minister, the approach will allow the administration to maintain its workforce while also opening opportunities for new candidates.
For job seekers in Madhya Pradesh, the announcement could mean more recruitment opportunities across government departments. The exact recruitment calendar, eligibility criteria and examination or selection procedures for the 1,500 Agriculture Department posts were not detailed at the event.
44 Families Receive Compassionate Appointments
Employment support was also extended to families of government employees who died while in service.
The Chief Minister distributed compassionate appointment letters to dependants of 44 deceased government employees. He said the government intends to bring pending compassionate appointment cases to zero.
Dr Yadav described the issue as a responsibility towards families who have lost their earning member. He said the government and departments would work together to address their difficulties.
The move links the government’s recruitment policy with an existing administrative responsibility: supporting families affected by the death of a government employee while also ensuring that eligible vacancies are utilised.

CM Calls Agriculture Department a Development Department
During the programme, Dr Yadav praised the role of the Agriculture Department and said it should not be viewed merely as another government department.
He described agriculture as an area that works closely with nature and is directly connected with changes taking place on the ground. According to him, the department’s work ultimately reaches farmers through government schemes, administrative decisions and field-level implementation.
“Agriculture Department is not a department but development,” the Chief Minister said, highlighting its role in changing the lives of farmers and rural communities.
He also referred to Madhya Pradesh’s contribution to the country’s food supply and cited the procurement of 104 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from nearly 14 lakh farmers, which he said helped the state achieve the number-one position in the sector.
Government Departments Seen as One System
Dr Yadav said Madhya Pradesh, with a population of around 8.5 crore, should be viewed as one large family and that government departments cannot work in isolation when the objective is public welfare.
He said the government has adopted an integrated approach towards welfare, with different departments working towards the larger needs of citizens.
The Chief Minister connected the Agriculture Department’s work with the broader development of the state, particularly through its impact on farmers and rural areas.
He said government files and decisions ultimately reach the fields and can contribute to better outcomes for farmers, adding that the department’s work brings visible changes to people’s lives.

CM Highlights Wider Development Push
Dr Yadav also spoke about the transformation of Madhya Pradesh and the wider development of the country under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
He said Madhya Pradesh, which was once described as a “BIMARU” state, has been progressing rapidly. He also referred to developments in different sectors and said the government is working towards setting new targets for the state.
The Chief Minister highlighted India’s performance in sports and other areas while speaking about the country’s changing position globally. He also referred to Indian cultural values and the idea of “live and let live”.
His remarks also included references to India’s sporting achievements and the country’s changing global image.

Recruitment Push Could Expand Government Opportunities
The announcement of 1,500 Agriculture Department vacancies, along with the target of one lakh new government posts, places employment generation among the key areas of the state government’s upcoming agenda.
For young people preparing for government recruitment examinations, the Agriculture Department vacancies could provide another opportunity once the government releases the formal recruitment notification.
At the same time, filling vacancies created through promotions can help government departments maintain adequate staffing levels. The compassionate appointment process also provides immediate administrative support to eligible families of deceased employees.
With agriculture remaining central to Madhya Pradesh’s rural economy, strengthening the department’s workforce could have an impact beyond government employment. More personnel at the field and administrative levels can support the implementation of agriculture schemes and services reaching farmers.
The recruitment announcements therefore combine two objectives: creating employment opportunities for job seekers and strengthening the administrative machinery responsible for delivering government programmes to citizens.
