New Delhi: The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology has signed an agreement with Nagpur-based Multi Nano Sense Technologies Pvt Ltd for ₹37.51 crore in financial support to develop an indigenous multi-gas sensing platform combining MEMS sensors with semiconductor electronics.
The project has an approved total cost of ₹75.02 crore and is being supported through the Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund. The funding will be provided through Optionally Convertible Debt (OCD).
MEMS Sensor Platform to Move From TRL-4 to TRL-9
Multi Nano Sense is developing a MEMS-based TCDIR gas sensor and CMOS AFE SoC platform designed to detect and measure multiple gases in a compact form.

The project aims to take the technology from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 to TRL 9, covering further development, integration, testing, validation and scale-up.
The proposed platform combines a MEMS sensing element with an application-specific analogue front-end system-on-chip (AFE SoC) for acquiring and processing sensor signals.
Sensor Designed for Industrial and Hydrogen Applications
The multi-gas sensing platform is being developed for applications including industrial leak detection, process control and health and safety monitoring.
Potential sectors identified by the project include refineries, petrochemical facilities, power systems, PNG infrastructure, batteries and the emerging hydrogen economy.
The platform is designed to combine high sensitivity with low power consumption and compact signal-processing electronics. Features under development include auto-calibration, environmental-parameter compensation and software-based gas-library processing.
The targeted response time is below 200 milliseconds, while the sensor package is planned to remain smaller than 25 mm × 25 mm × 15 mm.
RDI Support to Fund Testing and Scale-Up
The TDB-backed programme will support additional technology development, integration, testing and validation before the platform moves towards scale-up.
TDB Secretary Rajesh Kumar Pathak said indigenous capabilities in sensing and semiconductor technologies are important for industrial applications and strategic technology development. He said the RDI Fund is intended to support technologies that require sustained development before wider commercial deployment.
The project has been classified under the Deep Technology sector, with Quantum Technology identified as its sub-sector in the RDI programme.
Project Brings Sensors and Semiconductor Electronics Together
The proposed architecture brings together MEMS technology, semiconductor electronics and intelligent signal processing in a single sensing platform.
According to Multi Nano Sense Technologies, the RDI support will assist the company in advancing integration, validation and scale-up of its gas-sensing technology towards the targeted TRL-9 level.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader RDI support framework for deep-technology development, with the project aimed at building an indigenous platform for multi-gas sensing across industrial and emerging technology applications.
