Raipur: Nava Raipur Atal Nagar in Chhattisgarh has emerged as one of India’s fastest-developing planned smart cities, showcasing significant progress across infrastructure, education, healthcare, IT, tourism, and sustainable urban development. Advanced Infrastructure and Smart Urban Services
The city has achieved major milestones in urban infrastructure, including a 52 MLD water supply system supported by modern water treatment plants ensuring long-term drinking water availability.
To promote sustainability, bio-swales, recharge pits, and natural drainage systems spanning 10.66 km have been developed, strengthening groundwater recharge and environmental balance.
Improved Connectivity and Modern Transport System
Connectivity has improved with the extension of the Raipur–Rajim rail service up to the CBD station in Nava Raipur, enhancing regional transport access.
For sustainable mobility, initiatives such as:
- Pink e-rickshaw services for women
- Electric bus charging infrastructure
- Upcoming e-bus operations
are strengthening the city’s green transport ecosystem.
Education Hub: Development of EduCity
Nava Raipur is emerging as an education hub with the development of EduCity over 200 acres. Leading institutions such as:
- National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT)
- National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT)
- National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU)
- Narsee Monjee
have been allotted land.
Additionally, a residential school is planned on 17 acres in Sector-7.
Medicity to Boost Healthcare and Medical Tourism
A 500-acre Medicity project is being developed to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and promote medical tourism.

- Medical and nursing colleges

Bombay Hospital has been allotted land for a 300-bed super specialty hospital, along with major private investments in residential development.

The city is developing a 1,000-capacity working women’s hostel at a cost of ₹109 crore, ensuring safety and support for working women.
A 1,100-capacity worker housing facility is also under construction to support migrant workers with affordable accommodation.
Tourism, Culture, and MICE Destination Development
Nava Raipur is expanding as a tourism and cultural hub with:
- Sevagram spread over 77 acres
- Art of Living Foundation campus on 40 acres
- A proposed Convention Centre and Sports City over 120 acres
The ₹800 crore project will support world-class facilities for conferences, sports, and cultural events.
Emerging IT, Semiconductor, and AI Hub
The city is developing a strong technology ecosystem, including:
- First SEZ-based AI Data Centre Park with ₹4,000 crore investment
- India’s first GaN-based semiconductor plant
- Electronics Common Facility Centre (CFC) with advanced prototyping and testing facilities
Plug-and-play IT infrastructure in the CBD area is already generating employment, with further job creation expected.
Green Development and Sustainability Initiatives
Under the “People for People” campaign, more than 1 lakh trees have been planted, helping maintain 26% green cover in the city.
Other key initiatives include:
- Infrastructure development across 1,100 acres in Serikhedi and Mandir Hasaud
- Formation of a State Capital Region (SCR) development authority
- Expansion of Medicity and EduCity projects
- Promotion of IT, AI, wellness, and tourism investments
- Deployment of 40 new electric buses for public transport
