Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to India’s renewable energy ambitions, NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NLC India Limited, has signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) with Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) Ltd to develop large-scale green energy projects in Odisha.
The partnership marks the first phase of a planned 1000 MW renewable energy portfolio, aimed at strengthening clean energy infrastructure across the state and supporting India’s long-term Net Zero goals.
Joint Venture to Drive Multi-Technology Renewable Energy Projects
Under the agreement, the joint venture will focus on developing, operating, and maintaining renewable energy assets across multiple technologies.
The planned energy mix includes:
- Solar and wind power projects
- Hybrid renewable energy systems
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Pumped hydro storage
- Green hydrogen projects
- Low-carbon round-the-clock power solutions
- Waste-to-energy projects
The initiative is designed to not only expand generation capacity but also enhance integration across the renewable energy value chain, ensuring long-term sustainability and efficiency.
Strengthening Odisha’s Role as a Renewable Energy Hub
The agreement was formally signed on 23 June 2026 in Odisha by senior representatives of both organisations in the presence of government officials and energy sector stakeholders.
Officials said the partnership will help position Odisha as a key renewable energy hub in eastern India while contributing significantly to India’s broader decarbonisation and energy transition strategy.
The project will move forward subject to detailed techno-commercial feasibility studies and necessary approvals from relevant authorities, including government bodies and the Ministry of Coal.
