Why MES Matters for India’s Defence System
The President described MES as the “backbone of defence infrastructure” in India. MES plays a major role in building and maintaining:
- Military stations
- Strategic installations
- Defence buildings and facilities
- Support infrastructure for the Army, Navy and Air Force
This makes MES a silent but critical support system behind frontline military readiness.
Focus on Self-Reliance and Made-in-India Push
President Murmu linked the role of MES to India’s larger push for self-reliance in defence. She said that in a world shaped by conflict and geopolitical tensions, self-reliance is now a strategic necessity for every country.
She referred to Operation Sindoor as an example of why indigenous defence capabilities, advanced technology and a strong domestic industrial base are important for national preparedness and strategic effectiveness. She also noted with satisfaction that MES is promoting and using Made in India products.
Green Engineering Also a National Duty
The President also placed strong emphasis on sustainability. She said climate change and environmental challenges have made sustainable development a necessity, not a choice.
She told MES officers that as engineers, they have a responsibility to bring environmentally friendly practices into planning, construction and maintenance work. According to her, their contribution should help build not just a secure India, but also a clean, green and sustainable India.
