New Delhi: NLC India Limited celebrated its 70th Raising Day on May 20, 2026, commemorating seven decades of contribution to India’s mining and energy sector. The Platinum Jubilee celebrations were observed as “Gratitude Day,” honouring the company’s legacy, workforce, and stakeholders who contributed to its growth journey.
The celebrations began with the garlanding of the statue of Mr. Jambulinga Mudaliar, whose land donation played a key role in the establishment of the company. NLCIL flags were hoisted across all units, while the main ceremony at the Corporate Office was led by CMD Mr. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli in the presence of former CMDs, Functional Directors, senior officials, trade union representatives and employees.
Special Postal Cover Released to Mark 70-Year Journey
To commemorate the milestone, the Department of Posts released a Special Cover themed “70 Years of Energizing the Nation with Sustainability.” The cover highlighted NLCIL’s contribution to nation-building and sustainable energy development over the past seven decades.
The Special Cover was released by Mr. Sayeed Rashid, Postmaster General, Southern Region, and received by CMD Mr. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli during the ceremony.
CMD Highlights Strong Financial Growth and Future Vision
Addressing employees and stakeholders, CMD Mr. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli credited the company’s success to the dedication of generations of employees and visionary leadership over the decades.
He highlighted NLCIL’s strong financial performance during FY 2025-26, stating that the company had witnessed growth across both conventional and renewable energy sectors.
According to the CMD, the company’s market capitalisation has surged from nearly ₹9,000 crore to over ₹50,000 crore, transforming NLCIL from a small-cap company into a mid-cap enterprise driven by investor confidence and expansion plans.
He also noted that the Ministry of Coal had recognised NLCIL as one of the most professionally managed public sector companies in the country.
NLCIL Sets Aggressive Growth Targets
Outlining the company’s future roadmap, the CMD announced ambitious expansion targets for the coming years, including:
- Doubling mining production
- Tripling thermal power generation
- Increasing solar power generation seven-fold
- Implementing a capital expenditure plan worth ₹1.25 lakh crore
He said the 70th year of NLCIL would serve as the foundation for achieving future milestones and strengthening the company’s role in India’s energy security and sustainability goals.
Recognition for Employees and Stakeholders
During the evening function at Lignite Hall, former CMDs and retired employees were felicitated for their contributions to the company’s growth.
Ten retired employees and their spouses were honoured with shawls and gift hampers as a mark of appreciation for their service.
NLCIL also distributed awards under its “Reward and Recognition” scheme in categories including productivity excellence, efficiency, safety and overall performance. Elite and Excel awards were also presented to outstanding teams and individuals.
Focus on Sustainability and Nation Building
The CMD reiterated the company’s commitment towards supporting the vision of an “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and contributing to India’s long-term economic growth.
He highlighted NLCIL’s achievements in renewable energy, Swachh Bharat initiatives and social development while also assuring improvements in road safety infrastructure within Neyveli Township.
The event concluded with cultural performances by school students and participation from employees, trade unions, welfare associations, CISF officials, teachers and members of the public.
