New Delhi: NMDC Limited has increased the price of lump iron ore by ₹150 per tonne, taking the revised rate to ₹5,400 per tonne with effect from September 9, 2026. However, the company has kept the price of iron ore fines unchanged at ₹4,500 per tonne.

Why NMDC Increased Lump Ore Prices
The increase in lump ore prices comes amid tighter availability of iron ore in the domestic market.
Monsoon-related disruptions to mining and dispatch operations in major producing regions have affected supply conditions. At the same time, improving sentiment in the steel market has supported demand for iron ore.
The combination of tighter availability and improved steel-market sentiment has created room for higher prices, particularly for higher-grade lump iron ore.
Iron Ore Fines Price Remains Unchanged
While NMDC has increased the price of lump ore, it has maintained the fines price at ₹4,500 per tonne.
This indicates that the latest pricing action is focused on the higher-grade lump ore segment rather than being a broad-based increase across NMDC’s iron ore portfolio.
The price movement is expected to be closely monitored by domestic steel producers, as iron ore is a key raw material used in steel manufacturing.
NMDC’s Iron Ore Prices May Impact Steel Industry Costs
NMDC is one of India’s major iron ore producers and supplies a significant share of the country’s iron ore requirements for steelmaking.
Changes in NMDC’s benchmark iron ore prices can influence raw material costs across the domestic steel value chain.
