Sonbhadra: Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sri Sathya Sai Annapurna Trust to promote nutrition and the holistic development of schoolchildren in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh.
The initiative has been undertaken under NCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and will provide morning nutritious meals to around 10,000 students studying in Classes 1 to 8 across 126 schools in the district.
NCL to Provide Nutritious Meals to 10,000 Students
Under the initiative, students in NCL’s operational area in Sonbhadra will receive a morning nutritious meal for one year.
The programme will cover:
- 126 schools in Sonbhadra district
- Around 10,000 students
- Students from Classes 1 to 8
- One-year programme duration
- Morning nutritious and supplementary meals
The initiative aims to address the nutritional requirements of schoolchildren while supporting their health and overall development.

Focus on Children’s Health, Learning and School Attendance
NCL said the initiative is aimed at improving the nutritional well-being of children and supporting their development.

- Regular school attendance
- Overall development of children
Through the programme, NCL seeks to provide nutritional support to children living in communities around its operational areas.
NCL and Annapurna Trust Sign MoU
The MoU was signed by Rajiv Ranjan, General Manager (CSR), NCL, and Ashish Bhardwaj, representing the Sri Sathya Sai Annapurna Trust. The partnership will facilitate the implementation of the nutrition programme across the identified schools in Sonbhadra.
The initiative forms part of NCL’s wider CSR efforts focused on the welfare and development of communities in its operational areas.
Supplementary Nutrition Distributed to Schoolchildren
As part of the CSR initiative, supplementary nutrition was also distributed to schoolchildren in schools located under Nyaya Panchayat Kuldomari and Kota. The distribution marks the implementation of the nutrition-focused intervention at the grassroots level and is intended to provide additional nutritional support to students.
NCL’s CSR Focus on Holistic Child Development
The initiative goes beyond providing food by focusing on the broader well-being of schoolchildren.
