NPCIL Partners with IIT Bombay to Deploy AI Solutions, Boost Digital Transformation and Operational Efficiency 

The partnership will initially focus on LLM-based solutions for procurement, contracts, HR and vigilance, with future plans for predictive maintenance, digital twins, AR/VR and other advanced AI applications.

New Delhi: Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Bombay to drive the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies across the organisation. The partnership marks a significant step in NPCIL’s digital transformation journey and aims to bring advanced, secure and indigenous AI solutions into its operations.

The collaboration will combine NPCIL’s expertise in nuclear power with IIT Bombay’s capabilities in Artificial Intelligence to develop future-ready technologies focused on improving operational excellence, decision-making, safety, reliability and efficiency.

NPCIL and IIT Bombay to Develop AI-Based Solutions

Under the MoU, the two organisations will initially work on developing and deploying Large Language Model (LLM)-based solutions for various key functions within NPCIL.

The initial focus areas include:

  • Procurement
  • Contracts and Materials Management (CMM)
  • Human Resources
  • Vigilance

The adoption of LLM-based technologies is expected to help streamline processes, improve access to information and support more informed decision-making across these functions.

Future AI Applications to Include Predictive Maintenance and Digital Twins

The partnership is expected to expand into several advanced AI applications in future phases.

  • Advanced training simulators
  • Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies
  • Other intelligent enterprise solutions

These technologies could support NPCIL in improving operational efficiency, strengthening workforce training and enabling more advanced digital capabilities across its operations.

The collaboration aims to develop secure, indigenous and future-ready AI technologies suited to NPCIL’s operational requirements.
