SECI Tender Covers 1,500 MW Assured Peak Power
The SECI tender covered a total requirement of 1,500 MW of assured peak power for four hours, equivalent to 6,000 MWh.
The procurement framework is designed to address one of the key challenges associated with renewable energy—variability in generation from sources such as solar and wind.
By ensuring assured availability during peak-demand periods, the mechanism is intended to support the integration of renewable energy into India’s national power grid.
NTPC REL Discovers ₹6 Per kWh Tariff
NTPC REL secured its 500 MW capacity at a discovered tariff of ₹6 per kilowatt hour (kWh).
The awarded capacity will be added to the growing pipeline of peak power projects being developed by NTPC Green Energy and its subsidiaries.
These projects combine renewable generation with assured power supply arrangements, helping address short-term system requirements while supporting the country’s transition towards cleaner energy.
Assured Peak Power to Support Grid Reliability
Peak power contracts are becoming increasingly important as India continues to add significant amounts of variable renewable capacity, particularly solar and wind power.
The assured supply mechanism can help reduce the impact of intra-day variations in renewable generation and support smoother balancing of electricity demand and supply.
With ISTS-connected renewable energy projects, the procurement framework is also aimed at enabling renewable power to be delivered across the national transmission network.
NTPC REL Strengthens Renewable Energy Portfolio
The latest SECI award further expands NTPC REL’s portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy projects.
The 500 MW contract is expected to strengthen the company’s position in India’s rapidly developing renewable energy market while adding to its pipeline of projects focused on reliable and assured renewable power supply.
The successful auction also reflects continued interest from developers in structured renewable energy products designed to deliver power during critical demand windows.
