ONGC and BPRL Sign Strategic MoU at India Energy Week 2026 to Strengthen Upstream Exploration

Partnership focuses on joint exploration, risk-sharing, and collaboration in upcoming government exploration bid rounds

New Delhi: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Bharat PetroResources Limited (BPRL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance strategic cooperation in India’s upstream exploration sector.

The MoU was signed on the sidelines of India Energy Week (IEW) 2026, held at the ONGC Advanced Training Institute (ATI) in Goa.

Focus on Joint Exploration and Risk Sharing

Under the agreement, ONGC and BPRL will collaborate on technical studies, joint evaluations, and partnership opportunities in upcoming exploration bid rounds announced by the Govt of India.The framework focuses on risk-sharing mechanisms, optimisation of exploration resources, and enhanced technical cooperation to improve efficiency and project outcomes in exploration activities.

Supporting Upcoming Exploration Bid Rounds

The collaboration marks a significant step toward coordinated participation in future exploration blocks. By combining expertise and resources, both organisations aim to strengthen India’s upstream exploration capabilities and reduce operational risks. The partnership aligns with the government’s efforts to encourage collaboration and accelerate exploration under new licensing and bidding frameworks.

MoU Signed in Presence of Senior Leadership

The MoU was signed on January 27, 2026, at India Energy Week 2026 in Goa, in the presence of senior leadership from both organisations. These included ONGC Director (Strategy & Corporate Affairs) and ONGC Director (Exploration), along with BPRL’s Managing Director and Director (Finance).

Strengthening India’s Energy Security

This strategic collaboration reflects the shared commitment of ONGC and BPRL to strengthening India’s upstream energy sector. The partnership aims to leverage complementary expertise and contribute to long-term national energy security through efficient and coordinated exploration initiatives.
