ONGC Signs LNG Sourcing Agreement with TotalEnergies to Secure Spot and Short-Term Gas Supplies

Master LNG Sale and Purchase Agreement signed at India Energy Week 2026 enhances flexibility and strengthens India’s energy security
Indian Masterminds Stories

New Delhi: State-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has strengthened India’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply framework by signing a Master LNG Sale and Purchase Agreement (MSPA) with TotalEnergies Gas & Power Ltd (TEGPL). The agreement enables ONGC to access spot and short-term LNG cargoes, providing greater flexibility in LNG procurement amid evolving global energy market conditions.

Greater Flexibility in LNG Procurement

The MSPA allows ONGC to participate in future LNG sourcing opportunities as and when required. This flexible approach is expected to help ONGC respond effectively to market volatility while ensuring uninterrupted gas supplies.

By securing access to spot and short-term LNG cargoes, ONGC strengthens its ability to balance demand, manage price risks, and support India’s growing energy requirements.

By onboarding TotalEnergies as a potential supplier, ONGC aims to enhance the resilience, reliability, and competitiveness of its LNG sourcing strategy. The collaboration supports ONGC’s broader transition into an integrated energy major, while reinforcing India’s long-term energy security objectives.

Agreement Signed at India Energy Week 2026

The MSPA was concluded on January 27, 2026, on the sidelines of India Energy Week 2026. The agreement highlights ONGC’s continued focus on building diversified energy partnerships and securing reliable fuel supplies in line with national priorities. Industry observers see the move as a strategic step toward creating a stronger and more resilient LNG supply ecosystem for India.

Supporting India’s Growing Energy Needs

As natural gas plays an increasingly important role in India’s energy transition, agreements such as this are expected to help ensure stable supplies while supporting cleaner energy goals. The ONGC–TotalEnergies partnership reflects a long-term approach to secure, flexible, and competitive LNG sourcing.
