According to the Indian Embassy in Indonesia, the operation involved a helicopter-based insertion followed by an attack on a heavily defended simulated enemy camp in jungle terrain.

A joint team of soldiers from both countries was transported by helicopter and inserted close to the target area. The troops then moved towards the simulated enemy position and launched a coordinated assault. The operation demonstrated the ability of both forces to work together during complex military missions.

One of the main highlights of the final exercise was the use of helicopter-based operations.

Indian and Indonesian Special Forces soldiers practised approaching enemy locations by helicopter and conducting coordinated attacks.

The simulated operation tested their ability to work together in difficult terrain and respond quickly to changing battlefield conditions.

The Indian Embassy stated that the final drill demonstrated strong coordination, interoperability and teamwork between the two forces.

Combat Training And Tactical Operations

Before the final ambush exercise, both countries conducted several important military training activities.

These activities were designed to improve the combat skills and operational capabilities of the participating soldiers. The major training activities included:

  • Tactical Combat Casualty Care: Providing emergency medical assistance to injured soldiers during combat.
  • Combat Tracking: Learning how to identify and follow enemy movements.
  • Contact Drills: Practising how to respond when soldiers come under enemy fire.
  • Combat Free Fall: Soldiers from both countries performed joint free-fall parachute jumps.
  • Jungle Warfare: Training to operate effectively in dense forest environments.
  • Heliborne Operations: Practising helicopter insertion, landing-zone security and tactical movement.

These activities helped soldiers improve their coordination, decision-making and ability to operate under pressure.

11th Edition Of India-Indonesia Exercise Garuda Shakti

The 11th edition of Exercise Garuda Shakti began on October 27, 2026, at Banyuwangi in Indonesia. According to the Ministry of Defence, the exercise was scheduled to continue until November 6, 2026.

The Indian contingent included soldiers from the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) of the Indian Army. Indonesia participated with personnel from its own Special Forces.

The main objective was to improve mutual understanding, cooperation and operational interoperability between the two countries’ elite military units.

The initial training programme focused on special operations in jungle environments. It included obstacle crossing, combat marksmanship, mountaineering, air assault training and combat-hardening activities. Both sides also exchanged knowledge about weapons, equipment, military tactics and operational procedures.

Why Garuda Shakti 2026 Is Important For India

Exercise Garuda Shakti plays an important role in strengthening India’s defence partnership with Indonesia.

Joint military exercises allow soldiers to understand each other’s operational methods and improve their ability to work together during real-world missions.

The jungle warfare training is particularly important because operating in dense forests requires specialised skills, physical endurance and effective coordination.

The successful completion of the final validation exercise also demonstrates the progress made by both forces during the training programme.

For India, such exercises support stronger military relationships with Southeast Asian countries and improve cooperation in regional security.
