New Delhi: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Sarit Maheshwari for appointment as Managing Director of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) following interviews with eligible candidates.
Maheshwari is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Key Managerial Personnel of NTPC Green Energy, a renewable energy subsidiary of NTPC Limited. His existing leadership role gives him significant experience in driving the company’s renewable energy growth and expansion.
The PESB recommendation will now go through the prescribed government approval process before the appointment is formally notified.
Sarit Maheshwari Selected from 10 Candidates
Maheshwari was recommended for the post after being selected from a list of 10 candidates interviewed by the PESB selection panel.
The candidates represented several major public-sector organisations, including:
- Three candidates from NTPC Limited
- One candidate each from DVC, PVUNL, NGEL, SJVN, NHPC, PFC and IOCL
The selection process was conducted during a PESB meeting held on Thursday.

Maheshwari Has Led NTPC Green Energy Since 2025
Maheshwari has been serving as CEO and Key Managerial Personnel of NTPC Green Energy since May 10, 2025.
Before taking up the role, he served as the CEO of NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) and NTPC Rajasthan Green Energy Limited.
NTPC Rajasthan Green Energy Limited is a 74:26 joint venture between NGEL and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited.
His previous responsibilities have included leadership positions in major power projects, including serving as Head of Project at NTPC Korba.
Over 35 Years of Power Sector Experience
Maheshwari brings more than 35 years of experience in the power sector.
His academic qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University
- Master’s degree in Power Generation Technology from IIT Delhi
- MBA from IGNOU
His extensive experience across conventional and renewable energy projects is expected to support NGEL’s continued expansion in India’s clean energy sector.
NTPC Continues Renewable Energy Expansion
The recommendation comes at a time when NTPC is strengthening its renewable energy portfolio and expanding its presence in India’s rapidly growing clean energy market.
As the renewable energy arm of NTPC, NGEL is focused on developing and expanding clean energy capacity and supporting the broader energy transition.
Maheshwari’s experience in renewable energy leadership is expected to be relevant to the company’s growth strategy, subject to his formal appointment following the government approval process.
