In a move reflecting administrative continuity and trust in experienced leadership, the Jammu & Kashmir government has assigned additional charge of the Transport Department to IAS officer Piyush Singla. Currently serving as Secretary of the Information Technology (IT) Department, Singla will now oversee transport administration alongside his existing responsibilities.
A 2012-batch IAS officer, Piyush Singla brings with him over a decade of experience in governance. His professional journey is marked by a strong blend of medical, legal, and policy expertise. An MBBS graduate with a postgraduate diploma in medical law from the National Law School, he also holds a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and is a World Bank Scholar. His work has often focused on digital health and health economics, making him one of the more multidisciplinary officers in the civil services.
EXPANDING ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Singla has been serving as Secretary, IT Department since June 2025, where he has been involved in strengthening digital governance frameworks in the Union Territory. With the additional charge of Transport Secretary, his role now extends into another crucial sector that directly impacts public service delivery and infrastructure management.
The move is seen as part of the administration’s strategy to leverage experienced officers across departments to ensure efficient governance. His prior recognition, including the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2021, further underscores his track record in delivering impactful results.
By entrusting him with dual responsibilities, the government aims to maintain continuity while ensuring that key departments benefit from experienced administrative oversight.
