Bikaner: In a major boost to India’s clean energy transition, Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project of SJVN Limited from Pachpadra, Rajasthan. The event marks a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy journey and strengthens the country’s commitment to sustainability and energy security.
High-Level Dignitaries Attend Inauguration Ceremony
The historic inauguration was attended by several senior leaders and dignitaries, including:
- Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Governor of Rajasthan
- Bhajan Lal Sharma, Chief Minister of Rajasthan
- Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of Power, Housing & Urban Affairs
- Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister, Petroleum & Natural Gas
- Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister, Law & Justice
- Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Dr. Prem Chand Bairwa
Senior officials of SJVN and its renewable arm, SJVN Green Energy Limited, also joined the event virtually.
Bikaner Solar Project: India’s Largest Single-Location EPC Solar Plant
Developed by SGEL, the project is located in Bikaner, Rajasthan, and has been built with an investment of approximately ₹5,492 crore across nearly 5,000 acres.
It stands as:
- India’s largest single-location EPC solar project
- Developed under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) category
- A major example of indigenous renewable energy infrastructure
Massive Clean Energy Generation Capacity
The 1000 MW solar project is expected to generate:
- 2,454.84 million units (MU) in the first year
- 56,482.14 MU over its 25-year operational life
The electricity generated will be supplied to:
- Rajasthan – 500 MW
- Uttarakhand – 200 MW
- Jammu & Kashmir – 300 MW
This distribution is expected to significantly strengthen India’s clean energy grid.
Major Contribution to Climate Action Goals
The project is estimated to reduce nearly 2.79 billion kilograms of carbon emissions over its lifetime, making it a key contributor to India’s climate commitments and environmental sustainability targets.
Boost to Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat
A key highlight of the project is its strong alignment with national initiatives such as Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The project has utilized:
- 24.22 lakh domestically manufactured DCR solar modules
- 175 crore indigenous solar cells
This has significantly boosted domestic manufacturing and strengthened India’s renewable energy supply chain.
Employment and Regional Development Impact
Beyond clean energy generation, the project has contributed significantly to socio-economic development:
- Over 2,000 direct and indirect jobs created during construction
- Continued employment support during operational phase
- Development of roads, transmission systems, and local infrastructure
- Overall boost to economic growth in the Bikaner region
