PMAY-U 2.0 Targets Another 1 Crore Urban Families

PMAY-U was launched in June 2015 with the objective of achieving “Housing for All” in urban areas.

PMAY-U 2.0 builds on the earlier scheme and seeks to address the housing requirements of another 1 crore eligible EWS, LIG and MIG families in urban India, with annual household income of up to ₹9 lakh.

The scheme has different components aimed at meeting varied housing requirements, including construction of houses by beneficiaries, affordable housing projects, interest subsidies on home loans and affordable rental housing.

About PMAY-U 2.0

PMAY-U 2.0 places special emphasis on the housing needs of vulnerable and marginalised groups, including eligible SC/ST/OBC communities, minorities, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and transgender persons, along with other underprivileged sections.

The scheme also prioritises women-led house ownership or joint ownership. Under PMAY-U 2.0, houses can be allotted in the name of the female head of the household or through joint ownership, supporting women’s ownership of housing assets.
