Lucknow: The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) is preparing to develop a new township on more than 100 hectares of land in the Gangapar area, marking another planned expansion of the city beyond its existing urban limits.
The proposed township is being planned between Malak Harhar and Shivgarh in the Malaka area. Its proximity to the Ganga Expressway and a National Highway is expected to improve connectivity and create scope for new residential and commercial activity in the surrounding areas.
The authority has started looking for suitable land and is preparing to conduct a detailed survey before moving ahead with the next stages of the project.
PDA Begins Search for Land Across 15 Villages
The PDA has begun contacting landowners in more than 15 villages under Soraon tehsil as part of the land identification exercise.
An official team is expected to survey the identified areas and examine factors such as land availability, total area and other requirements for developing the township.
The survey will help the authority identify land that can support planned urban development and accommodate the infrastructure required for a large residential settlement.
After completion of the survey, the land acquisition process is expected to move forward according to the applicable procedure.
The authority’s focus is not simply on creating residential plots. It wants to identify a location where housing, roads, utilities and other public facilities can be developed together as the area grows.

Wide Roads and Civic Facilities in the Plan
The proposed township is expected to include basic infrastructure needed for a planned urban settlement.
The development plan includes provisions for:
- Wider roads and connecting routes
- Drainage infrastructure
- Drinking water supply
- Electricity facilities
- Green spaces
- Space for other civic amenities as required
This approach is intended to ensure that urban expansion does not happen in an unplanned manner.
The township project is being taken forward under the Chief Minister’s Expansion Scheme. According to the plan, its development process will follow the development of the proposed Aerocity in the region.
Ganga Expressway Could Boost Connectivity
Location is expected to be one of the key factors behind the proposed township.
The area between Malaka and Shivgarh is located close to the Ganga Expressway and a National Highway. Better road connectivity could make the proposed township more accessible from other parts of Prayagraj and surrounding areas.
Improved connectivity may also encourage commercial activity around the new residential development. Markets, shops, offices and other businesses could gradually emerge as the population and movement in the area increase.
However, these are future possibilities linked to the proposed development and improved connectivity rather than completed developments at this stage.
Township Development to Follow Aerocity Progress
PDA Vice-Chairman Rishiraj said the authority has planned a township around Malaka and Shivgarh and is working towards developing it across more than 100 hectares.
The authority plans to take the township process forward after the bhoomi pujan of the Aerocity. The proposed sequencing links the two major development plans as part of the broader expansion of Gangapar.
Once the land survey and other preliminary exercises are completed, the authority will be in a better position to determine the exact land area and development framework.
The township is therefore still at the planning and land-identification stage, rather than being an immediately ready residential project.
What the Township Could Mean for Gangapar
The proposed project could add a new planned residential zone to the expanding urban landscape of Prayagraj.
For residents, planned development could bring housing options along with better access to roads, water supply, drainage, electricity and green spaces. For local businesses, an increase in residential activity could create demand for shops, services and other commercial establishments.
The project’s location near major transport corridors could further support this growth if connectivity develops as planned.
The wider significance of the initiative lies in how Prayagraj manages its future expansion. Instead of allowing residential growth to spread without supporting infrastructure, a planned township can provide an opportunity to build housing, roads and civic facilities together.
With the PDA now beginning the land-search and survey process, the proposed 100+ hectare township in Gangapar represents an early step towards creating another organised urban growth zone around Prayagraj.
