NTPC Group Capacity Surges to 90,668 MW After 800 MW Patratu Unit-2 Trial Operation

New Delhi: NTPC Limited has achieved a major milestone with the successful trial operation of Unit-2 (800 MW) at Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL), pushing its total installed generation capacity to 90,668 MW.

The announcement was made through a regulatory filing to stock exchanges in compliance with SEBI Listing Regulations.

Patratu Unit-2 Adds 800 MW to NTPC Capacity

The newly commissioned Unit-2 at the Patratu Super Thermal Power Project in Jharkhand has completed its trial run and met all approved operational norms.

Following necessary approvals, the unit has now been formally included in the installed capacity of NTPC Limited.

PVUNL: Key Subsidiary Driving Thermal Expansion

Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL), a subsidiary of NTPC, plays a strategic role in expanding India’s thermal power infrastructure.

The Patratu project is designed to enhance electricity generation capacity in eastern India and improve long-term energy reliability in the region.

Total Installed Capacity Reaches 90,668 MW

With the addition of the 800 MW unit, the total installed capacity of the NTPC Group now stands at 90,668 MW, marking another step in its expansion journey.

The company had earlier crossed 89,868 MW, supported by the commissioning of solar projects in Rajasthan.

Strengthening India’s Power Supply Network

NTPC Limited said the capacity addition aligns with its long-term strategy to:

  • Expand power generation capabilities
  • Improve grid stability
  • Meet rising electricity demand
  • Support industrial and economic growth

The Patratu project is expected to significantly improve power availability in Jharkhand and nearby states.

Focus on Multi-Source Energy Expansion

NTPC continues to expand across thermal, renewable, and hybrid energy segments, reinforcing its position as India’s largest power utility.

Officials said the company remains committed to supporting the country’s growing energy requirements through sustainable and reliable power generation.
