Indian Masterminds Stories

New Delhi: NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has announced the commissioning of two new solar power units in Rajasthan, further strengthening its renewable energy footprint in India. The additions increase the company’s total installed capacity to 10,516.40 MW, marking another milestone in its clean energy journey.

New Solar Units Begin Commercial Operations

The regulatory filing confirmed that:

  • Project Eleven Renewable Power Private Limited: The second phase of 12.5 MW has commenced operations, taking the project’s cumulative capacity to 100 MW out of the planned 150 MW.
  • Project Sixteen Renewable Power Private Limited: A new 50 MW capacity has started commercial operation, raising the project’s cumulative capacity to 200 MW of the planned 300 MW.

Both projects are subsidiaries of ONGC NTPC Green Private Limited, a 50:50 joint venture between NTPC Limited and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), aimed at accelerating India’s renewable energy expansion.

Commercial Capacity Hits 10,516.40 MW

Before these additions, NTPC Green Energy Group’s commercial capacity stood at 10,453.90 MW. With the commissioning of the new solar units, the commercial capacity now reaches 10,516.40 MW, reflecting the company’s consistent growth in renewable power generation.

This expansion aligns with NTPC Limited’s broader strategy to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, supporting India’s commitment to sustainable energy transition.

Strategic Renewable Expansion

The move also follows significant strategic acquisitions by the joint venture. In February 2025, ONGC NTPC Green Private Limited signed a share purchase agreement to acquire Ayana Renewable Power Private Limited, which is expected to add over 4 GW of operational and pipeline capacity to its portfolio.

This ongoing build-out highlights the focus on scaling up solar power generation across key states, contributing to India’s energy security and decarbonization goals.
