WCL Signs MoU with Zilla Parishad Gadchiroli to Launch Project Poshit for Maternal Nutrition 

Western Coalfields Limited has partnered with Zilla Parishad, Gadchiroli, to implement an Anganwadi-based maternal nutrition programme covering 397 centres to improve maternal health and reduce malnutrition in tribal and remote areas.

Nagpur: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zilla Parishad, Gadchiroli, to implement Project Poshit, an Anganwadi-based maternal nutrition programme under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The project aims to improve the nutritional health of 2,555 pregnant and lactating women living in tribal and remote areas of Maharashtra.

The MoU was signed on July 31, 2026, marking another important step by WCL to strengthen maternal and child health through community-focused CSR programmes.

WCL Signs MoU with Zilla Parishad Gadchiroli

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in the presence of Shri Bikram Ghosh, Director (Finance & Human Resources), WCL.

The agreement was signed by:

  • Lalit Prakash Tirkey, General Manager (CSR), WCL.
  • Suhas Gade, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad, Gadchiroli.

The project will be implemented in partnership with the Women & Child Development Department to improve maternal nutrition and healthcare outcomes in underserved communities.

Project Poshit to Benefit 2,555 Women

Under Project Poshit, WCL will provide daily hot, balanced and nutritious meals to:

  • 2,555 pregnant women and lactating mothers.
  • Beneficiaries across 397 Anganwadi Centres.

The programme will cover the following blocks in Gadchiroli district:

  • Armori
  • Chamorshi
  • Desaiganj
  • Gadchiroli
  • Mulchera

The initiative is designed to ensure that expecting and nursing mothers receive adequate nutrition during critical stages of pregnancy and early motherhood.

Focus on Maternal Health and Nutrition

Project Poshit has been launched to address key health challenges faced by women in tribal and remote regions.

The programme aims to:

  • Improve maternal nutrition.
  • Reduce anaemia among pregnant women.
  • Prevent malnutrition.
  • Support healthier pregnancies.
  • Improve the health of newborns and children.
  • Strengthen community health through Anganwadi centres.

By providing nutritious meals regularly, the initiative seeks to improve overall maternal and child health outcomes.

CSR Initiative to Strengthen Rural Healthcare

The project reflects WCL’s continued commitment to supporting social development through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Through collaboration with local administration and the Women & Child Development Department, the company aims to strengthen healthcare services in underserved regions while improving access to essential nutritional support for vulnerable women.
