Chandigarh: The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister S. This was announced by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur.

New Toilet Facilities for Rural Anganwadi Centres

Dr. Baljit Kaur shared that the government plans to construct new toilets in 2,162 Anganwadi Centres in rural areas, with an estimated total expenditure of Rs. 7.78 crore. Approximately Rs. 36,000 will be allocated for the construction of each toilet.

She further mentioned that funds would be released to districts soon so that construction can begin without delay. These new facilities will provide children with a safe and hygienic environment, directly supporting their health and well-being.

Focus on Health, Safety, and Hygiene

The Cabinet Minister emphasized that the construction of these toilets will be carried out with children’s health, safety, and hygiene in mind. By providing improved sanitation, the government aims to create a clean and child-friendly environment in Anganwadi Centres, enhancing the overall learning and care experience for young children.

Strengthening Early Childhood Development

Anganwadi Centres play a crucial role in early childhood care and learning, serving as the first stage of education and support for children. According to Dr. Baljit Kaur, providing a safe and hygienic environment is a top priority for the government, as it not only safeguards children’s health but also strengthens parents’ confidence in the services offered at these centres.

Implementation Through Rural Development and Panchayats

The construction of toilets in rural Anganwadi Centres will be executed by the Rural Development and Panchayats Department. The government has assured that the work will be completed on a priority basis to ensure timely access to proper sanitation facilities for all children.

A Step Towards Child-Friendly Infrastructure

This initiative by the Punjab Government highlights its commitment to improving early childhood infrastructure, promoting hygiene, and ensuring holistic development of children across the state. With these efforts, Anganwadi Centres will not only provide essential care and education but also a safe, clean, and healthy environment for children to thrive.
