Punjab: In a historic move on International Women’s Day, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced the launch of the ‘Mukhyamantri Mawan-Dhiyan Satkaar Yojana’, aimed at providing direct financial assistance to women across the state. This ambitious scheme is designed to promote women’s financial independence and empowerment, fulfilling a major election promise of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.

Financial Assistance Under the Scheme

Under the new scheme:

  • Women aged 18 years and above will receive ₹1,000 per month.
  • Women belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community will receive ₹1,500 per month.
  • The total budget provision for the scheme is ₹9,300 crore.

The scheme is expected to provide a direct economic boost to women, ensuring social and financial security while promoting their active participation in society.

Registration to Begin from 13th April

The registration process for the scheme will begin on 13th April (Baisakhi). To ensure smooth implementation, the government will organize special registration camps across the state. CM Mann emphasized that the scheme has minimal eligibility restrictions, ensuring that every deserving mother, sister, and daughter can benefit.

The Chief Minister described the initiative as a milestone for women’s empowerment in Punjab, providing a strong foundation for financial independence.

Budget Reflects Commitment to Social Welfare

CM Mann highlighted that the state’s budget, presented by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, demonstrates a commitment to the welfare of the common citizen. Alongside this monthly cash assistance, the budget also includes:

  • Free electricity for households
  • Free bus travel
  • Health insurance coverage up to ₹10 lakh

The Chief Minister contrasted the current government’s approach with previous administrations, stating that earlier budgets were often limited to paper promises, whereas the AAP government is delivering concrete benefits to citizens.

Focus on Education, Health, and Sports

The budget also emphasizes infrastructure development and youth empowerment:

  • Education: Budget increased by 7%
  • Sports infrastructure: ₹1,791 crore allocated

CM Mann stressed that investing in sports will channelize youth energy positively, help fight substance abuse, and promote overall well-being. He also pointed out the significant development of schools, hospitals, and mohalla clinics across Punjab under the current government.

Transparent Governance and Efficient Financial Management

Responding to opposition queries, CM Mann stated that the government is eliminating leakages and corruption in the system, using the saved funds for public welfare schemes. From power plant purchases to providing canal water to farmers, the government is taking strategic steps to ensure economic growth and citizen welfare in Punjab.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the AAP government’s primary focus remains the progress of the state and the well-being of its citizens.
