Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Inaugurates New School Block, Highlights Push for Quality Government Education

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated the Vardhman Block at a government primary school in Ludhiana, reaffirming Punjab's commitment to modernising public education, expanding smart classrooms, strengthening school infrastructure and improving learning outcomes across the state.

Ludhiana: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated the newly constructed Vardhman Block at the Government Primary School in Lohara, Ludhiana, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to strengthening public education infrastructure. Despite heavy rainfall, the Chief Minister attended the event as scheduled, highlighting the government’s focus on improving government schools and providing quality education to every child.

The inauguration is part of Punjab’s ongoing initiative to modernise government schools on the lines of the Schools of Eminence model by upgrading infrastructure and learning facilities.

Braving heavy rain, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann formally inaugurated the newly built Vardhman Block at the Government Primary School in Lohara.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from:

  • Local residents.
  • Teachers.
  • School students.
  • Public representatives.
  • Education department officials.

The Chief Minister later inspected the school campus along with senior education officials and local legislators.

Punjab Government Committed to Strengthening School Infrastructure

Addressing the gathering, Bhagwant Mann said the Punjab government is continuously working to improve educational infrastructure across the state.

He emphasised that the government remains committed to:

  • Upgrading government schools.
  • Providing better learning facilities for students.
  • Creating modern educational environments.
  • Expanding quality public education across Punjab.

According to the Chief Minister, strengthening school infrastructure is essential for improving educational outcomes and ensuring equal opportunities for all children.

Vardhman Group Recognised for Supporting Government Schools

The Chief Minister appreciated the contribution of the Vardhman Textile Group in improving educational infrastructure across Punjab.

He said the group has supported the construction of school buildings in several government schools, including:

  • Lohara.
  • Gyaspura.
  • Kasabad.
  • Ladowal.
  • Sekhewal.
  • Other government schools in the region.

Bhagwant Mann said such public-private cooperation plays an important role in strengthening the state’s education system.

Education Is the Key to Ending Poverty, Says Chief Minister

Highlighting the transformative power of education, the Chief Minister said poverty and other social challenges cannot be eliminated through free benefits alone.

He stressed that education is the most effective tool for improving people’s lives and creating long-term economic and social progress.

According to Bhagwant Mann:

  • Education empowers individuals.
  • Quality schooling improves living standards.
  • Skilled youth contribute to economic development.
  • Strong education systems help eliminate poverty over time.

Punjab Tops India in Primary and Middle School Education

The Chief Minister said Punjab has achieved significant progress in the education sector over the past four years.

Citing the latest data released by NITI Aayog, he claimed that Punjab has secured the top position in primary and middle school education, surpassing states such as:

  • Kerala.
  • Maharashtra.
  • Delhi.

He attributed the achievement to continuous reforms introduced by the state government.

Smart Classrooms and Teacher Training Drive Education Reforms

Bhagwant Mann said the government has focused on improving the quality of education through several initiatives, including:

  • Smart classrooms.
  • Advanced teacher training programmes.
  • Modern teaching methodologies.
  • Stronger school infrastructure.
  • Improved academic standards.

He noted that Kerala had previously led the rankings, but Punjab has now emerged as the top-performing state due to sustained investments in education.

Heavy Rain Fails to Dampen Enthusiasm

Despite adverse weather conditions, the inauguration programme was conducted as scheduled.

Heavy rainfall required additional arrangements by:

  • Ludhiana Police.
  • District administration.
  • Traffic police.

Security personnel ensured smooth movement of the Chief Minister’s convoy, while traffic officials managed public movement and maintained order around the venue.

Government Schools Being Developed on Schools of Eminence Model

After inaugurating the Vardhman Block, the Chief Minister inspected the school and reviewed the facilities developed under the project.

He said the initiative forms part of the Punjab government’s broader campaign to transform government schools into modern institutions comparable to the Schools of Eminence by providing:

  • Modern classrooms.
  • Better academic infrastructure.
  • Improved learning environments.
  • Enhanced educational resources.

The government aims to ensure that students studying in government schools receive high-quality education on par with the best institutions.

Punjab Government to Continue Investing in Education

Concluding his address, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said education remains the highest priority of his government and described it as the light that removes ignorance and transforms society.

He reaffirmed that Punjab will continue investing in school infrastructure, teacher development and modern learning facilities to maintain its leadership in education and ensure every child has access to quality schooling.
