Bhopal: Raisen is emerging as an important agricultural hub for Madhya Pradesh, with its Basmati rice reaching 47 countries and exports worth nearly ₹1,800 crore recorded last year, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said.
Addressing the Balram Krishi Mahotsav in Raisen virtually on August 13, Yadav said the district is gaining recognition for both its agricultural produce and heritage.
Basmati Gives Raisen a Global Identity
Yadav said Raisen’s farmers are gaining global recognition, with Basmati rice exported to 47 countries, worth nearly ₹1,800 crore last year. The district is also known for wheat, Sanchi, Bhimbetka and Bhojpur, while farmers are expanding into fruit and vegetable cultivation.

Government Support From Seed to Market
Yadav said the government is supporting farmers across the agricultural value chain, from seeds to markets.
Farmers will continue to receive zero-interest loans, with one year available for repayment.
The government is also working to resolve old irregularities in cooperative accounts so more farmers can access loans and welfare schemes.
Other measures include:
- Procurement of moong and urad.
- Record purchase of 104 lakh metric tonnes of wheat.
- MSP and bonus support for wheat procurement.
- Continued access to agricultural credit and government schemes.
Focus on Processing, Branding and Marketing
The government is working to help farmers earn more by connecting them with processing, branding and marketing facilities.
Key areas include:
- Expansion of food parks and cold chains.
- Strengthening agricultural processing infrastructure.
- Greater use of technology and innovation.
- Raising milk production from 12% to 20%.
- Developing a modern fish hatchery in every district.
These measures aim to strengthen the agricultural value chain and create better market opportunities for farmers.
Ken-Betwa Project to Boost Irrigation
Raisen is expected to benefit from the Ken-Betwa National River Linking Project.
Yadav said the project would significantly increase irrigation capacity in the district.
This could support:
- Higher agricultural productivity.
- Greater crop diversification.
- Improved irrigation access for farmers.
The Chief Minister said the government would continue supporting farmers throughout the agricultural cycle.
Road Projects to Benefit Raisen
Yadav also appealed to farmers not to sell their agricultural land.
He said road infrastructure projects being developed around Bhopal would benefit Raisen by:
- Improving connectivity.
- Creating new economic opportunities.
- Helping farmers transport produce to markets and processing centres.
Raisen’s Agricultural Economy Expands
Raisen’s Basmati exports, wheat production and crop diversification are strengthening its agricultural profile. Better irrigation, processing, cold-chain and road infrastructure could further expand markets and boost farmers’ incomes.
Yadav urged farmers to use the facilities at the Balram Krishi Mahotsav and extended greetings on Hariyali Teej, Independence Day, Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami.
