Hyderabad: The Telangana government has appointed retired Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Raja Sekhar Reddy Lakkadi as the Chairman of the Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB).
The Environment, Forests, Science and Technology Department issued Government Order (GO) Ms No. 33 on September 7, 2026, partially modifying earlier orders issued in January 2021 and March 2024 concerning the constitution of the Board.
According to the order, Lakkadi has been appointed in view of his special knowledge and practical experience in environmental protection. His tenure as Chairman will be three years from the date of the appointment order.
Who Is Raja Sekhar Reddy Lakkadi?
Raja Sekhar Reddy Lakkadi is a retired 1990-batch Indian Revenue Service officer of the Income Tax (CBDT) cadre. He has had a career spanning around 36 years in tax administration and cyber law enforcement.
Before his retirement, he held senior responsibilities in the Income Tax Department, including serving as Director General for the PG Diploma in Cyber, CCIT (TDS), Chennai.

His professional experience in tax administration, cyber law and enforcement adds a specialised administrative background to his new role in environmental regulation.
Educational Background

His academic and professional experience in law, technology and enforcement is expected to complement his new responsibilities at the pollution control board.
New Role at TGPCB
Lakkadi took charge of the TGPCB chairmanship following the state government’s September 7 order.
The appointment modifies the earlier structure of the Board, under which the Chief Secretary to the Telangana government served as Chairman along with other government officials and non-official members.
The TGPCB is responsible for implementing pollution-control regulations and monitoring environmental compliance across Telangana. The Board works on issues related to air and water pollution, industrial emissions, waste management and environmental protection.
Lakkadi’s appointment comes with a specific reference in the government order to his special knowledge and practical experience in environmental protection.
