Lucknow: Rajeev Krishna, acting Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday chaired a high-level zonal crime review meeting in Mirzapur, directing senior police officers to expand the use of technology in policing while intensifying action against organised crime, cow smuggling and repeat offenders.

The meeting covered law-and-order preparedness across the Vindhyachal and Varanasi police zones and focused on improving crime control strategies, investigation quality and public safety mechanisms.

Senior Officers from Varanasi and Vindhyachal Zones Attend Review Meeting

The review meeting was attended by senior officers from both police zones, including:

• ADG of Varanasi Zone

• IGs and DIGs of Vindhyachal and Varanasi ranges

• Superintendents of Police from both ranges

• Other district-level senior police officers

Detailed Review of Crime Control, Cow Smuggling and Gang Operations

The acting DGP conducted a detailed assessment of:

• Crime prevention measures

• Action against cow smuggling networks

• Operations against organised gangs

• Action against habitual offenders

Police sources said emphasis was laid on strict field enforcement and sustained intelligence-based action against criminal groups operating across district boundaries.

Rajeev Krishna reiterated the Uttar Pradesh government’s zero-tolerance policy toward crime and instructed officers to maintain consistent pressure on offenders.

Mission Shakti Reviewed with Focus on Women’s Safety

Special emphasis was given to Mission Shakti, the state’s flagship campaign focused on women’s safety, security and empowerment.

The DGP reviewed progress under the initiative and sought stronger implementation at the district level, particularly in sensitive areas related to women’s protection and complaint response.

Officials were directed to ensure that women-related complaints receive prompt and sensitive handling.

Technology in Policing Gets Major Push

A major part of the review focused on technology-led policing.

Rajeev Krishna stressed that digital tools must now become central to modern law enforcement.

Senior officers discussed wider deployment of the Yaksh App for:

• Tracking criminals

• Linking case records

• Monitoring habitual offenders

• Supporting faster investigation

The app is increasingly being used by field units to improve real-time access to criminal records and operational intelligence.

Cybercrime Surveillance and Public Awareness Reviewed

Cybercrime prevention also featured prominently during the meeting.

Officials reviewed current cyber surveillance measures and discussed strengthening public awareness campaigns to reduce digital fraud incidents.

Police units were instructed to improve:

• Monitoring of cyber complaints

• Technical investigation support

• Public reporting mechanisms

The review comes as cybercrime cases continue to rise across urban and semi-urban districts.

Electronic Evidence to Strengthen Prosecution

The DGP also reviewed the use of electronic evidence in criminal investigations.

He directed officers to increase reliance on digital evidence, including:

• CCTV footage

• Mobile data

• Electronic transaction trails

• Digital communication records

Officials said stronger use of e-evidence is expected to improve prosecution quality and conviction outcomes.

Public Complaint Disposal Must Be Prompt and Transparent

The functioning of the grievance redressal system was also examined during the meeting.

Rajeev Krishna instructed district police chiefs to ensure:

• Prompt disposal of complaints

• Transparent action reporting

• Quality review of grievance handling

He said citizen trust depends heavily on how police respond to everyday complaints.

DGP Calls for Firm Action with Citizen-Friendly Conduct

While insisting on tough action against offenders, the acting DGP also reminded officers that policing must remain citizen-friendly.

He directed officers to maintain sensitivity in public dealing, especially during complaint handling, field interaction and victim response.

Officials said the dual focus would remain on strong law enforcement and improved public confidence.
