Ashwini Vaishnaw clears proposal on request of Anil Baluni, aiming to boost travel convenience and regional development

Dehradun: The Central Government has approved a new direct rail service between Ramnagar and Dehradun, offering a major boost to connectivity and regional development in Uttarakhand.

The decision was conveyed by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in a letter to Garhwal MP Anil Baluni, who had requested the introduction of this route earlier this year.

Demand Raised to Improve Direct Connectivity

MP Anil Baluni had met the Railway Minister in January, urging the launch of a direct train service between Ramnagar and Dehradun to address long-standing connectivity issues faced by residents and travelers.

Welcoming the approval, Baluni expressed gratitude to the central leadership and said the government has consistently taken a positive and responsive approach toward improving rail infrastructure in Uttarakhand.

Boost to Travel Convenience and Economic Growth

The upcoming Ramnagar–Dehradun rail service is expected to significantly benefit passengers by:

  • Reducing travel time between the two cities
  • Lowering transportation costs
  • Providing a more convenient and direct travel option

Baluni emphasized that improved connectivity will also accelerate social and economic development in the region, especially in remote and semi-urban areas.

Expansion of Rail Network in Uttarakhand

The approval of this new rail service comes amid continuous expansion of railway connectivity in the state under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In recent years, several key rail services have been introduced, including:

  • Kathgodam–Dehradun Naini Doon Express
  • Kotdwar–New Delhi rail service
  • Vande Bharat Express connecting Dehradun and Lucknow

These developments have strengthened the state’s transport infrastructure and improved accessibility.

A Step Toward Inclusive Development

Calling the project a “significant milestone,” MP Baluni stated that the new rail service will play a crucial role in Uttarakhand’s overall development. He added that better rail connectivity not only enhances mobility but also supports tourism, trade, and local businesses, ultimately contributing to the state’s long-term growth.

The approval of the Ramnagar–Dehradun rail service marks another step toward strengthening infrastructure in Uttarakhand. With improved connectivity, the initiative is expected to bring tangible benefits to both residents and visitors while supporting the region’s economic progress.
