Ranchi: Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi is set for major modernization with the launch of four new passenger-friendly facilities and plans for infrastructure expansion worth ₹100 crore. The initiative aims to improve travel experience, strengthen connectivity, and transform the airport into a modern aviation hub for Jharkhand.

The new facilities were inaugurated by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu during his visit to Ranchi.

Four New Modern Facilities Launched at Ranchi Airport

The newly inaugurated facilities include:

  • Birsa Munda Feature Wall
  • Udaan Yatri Café
  • Kids Zone
  • Flybrary

The minister also unveiled a statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, highlighting Jharkhand’s tribal heritage and cultural identity.

₹100 Crore Development Plan for Airport Expansion

The Civil Aviation Minister announced that ₹100 crore has been allocated for the development of Ranchi Airport.

He stated that the government’s vision is not limited to connecting Ranchi with state capitals, but also to expand the airport’s capabilities for future international connectivity.

The minister added that efforts will be made to accelerate land transfer processes required for expansion works.

Advanced Navigation System to Improve Flight Operations

The airport is also expected to receive advanced navigation infrastructure, including CAT-II lighting systems, after land acquisition is completed.

This technology will help aircraft operations during:

  • Foggy weather
  • Low visibility conditions
  • Night-time landings

Officials believe the upgrade will reduce flight cancellations and improve operational efficiency.

Demand Raised for Direct Flights to Pune and Other Cities

During the event, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth urged the Civil Aviation Ministry to introduce direct flights from Ranchi to:

  • Pune
  • Bengaluru
  • Varanasi
  • Other major cities

He highlighted that many people from Jharkhand travel to Pune and other metro cities for IT jobs, education, and employment opportunities but currently face inconvenience due to the absence of direct flights.

Passenger-Friendly Features Attract Attention

Birsa Munda Feature Wall and Statue

The feature wall showcases Jharkhand’s tribal culture and heritage, offering visitors a glimpse of the state’s identity upon arrival.

Udaan Yatri Café

The newly launched café aims to provide affordable food and beverages to passengers, addressing concerns over expensive airport meals.

Avasar Counter

A dedicated help desk has been introduced to assist first-time flyers, senior citizens, and passengers needing travel support.

Kids Zone

A special entertainment area for children has been developed to make waiting time more enjoyable for families travelling with kids.

Airport to Get More World-Class Facilities

Airport Director Vinod Kumar said passenger convenience remains the top priority and more modern facilities will be introduced in the coming years to give Ranchi Airport a world-class identity. Several dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji, Ranchi Mayor representatives, and Airports Authority of India officials, were present at the event.

Scooter Ride by Ministers Draws Attention

A unique moment during the visit became a talking point when Union Minister Sanjay Seth personally drove Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on a scooter from the airport to his residence, reflecting simplicity and drawing public attention.
