New Delhi: REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited and a Maharatna Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) under the Ministry of Power, has handed over Ryapte Power Transmission Limited, the project-specific Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), to The Tata Power Company Limited.

The handover took place on July 30, 2026, following Tata Power’s emergence as the successful bidder through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process conducted by RECPDCL, which acted as the Bid Process Coordinator (BPC) for the project.

The transmission project, titled “Evacuation Scheme for 2000 MW Solar Park at Ryapte Village, Tumkur District,” will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis. The project has an estimated cost of ₹3,200 crore and is scheduled to be implemented within 30 months.

₹3,200 Crore Project to Support 2,000 MW Solar Park

The transmission scheme is a key part of Karnataka’s renewable energy infrastructure. It will help establish the transmission network required to evacuate electricity generated by the proposed 2,000 MW solar park at Ryapte Village in Tumkur district and integrate it into the power grid.

The major infrastructure planned under the project includes:

  • 400/220 kV substation at Ryapte in Tumkur district.
  • 400/220 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) at Doddathaggalli near Hosakote.
  • Around 207 km of 400 kV double-circuit transmission line connecting Doddathaggalli, Ryapte and Kolar.
  • Around 57 km of 220 kV double-circuit transmission line connecting Doddathaggalli, Ekarajapura, Hosakote and Sarjapura.
  • Other associated transmission works to strengthen the regional power evacuation network.

The planned transmission infrastructure is expected to improve grid connectivity and enable the efficient evacuation of large-scale solar power.

Project to Be Completed in 30 Months

The transmission project has an estimated investment of ₹3,200 crore and a planned implementation schedule of 30 months.

Once completed, the project is expected to play an important role in integrating large-scale renewable energy into the power grid. The new transmission infrastructure will support efficient power evacuation and strengthen Karnataka’s ability to accommodate increasing renewable energy generation. The project is also aligned with India’s clean energy goals, as adequate transmission infrastructure is essential for integrating renewable energy capacity into the grid.

Transmission Project to Strengthen Karnataka’s Renewable Energy Network

The handover of Ryapte Power Transmission Limited to Tata Power marks an important milestone in the development of renewable energy transmission infrastructure in Karnataka.

The proposed 2,000 MW solar park will require a robust transmission network to transfer the generated electricity to the wider power grid. The transmission infrastructure planned under the project is expected to enhance grid connectivity and support the reliable evacuation of renewable power.

The project is expected to:

  • Strengthen Karnataka’s renewable energy transmission network.
  • Improve grid connectivity for large-scale solar power.
  • Facilitate the efficient evacuation of electricity from the proposed 2,000 MW solar park.
  • Support the integration of renewable energy into the power grid.
  • Contribute to India’s clean and sustainable energy transition.

With an estimated investment of ₹3,200 crore, the project is expected to contribute to Karnataka’s expanding renewable energy capacity while supporting India’s broader transition towards clean and sustainable energy.
