Patna: Bihar Police arrested four people within six hours after a video allegedly showing the harassment of a minor girl in Samastipur came to the attention of the Police Headquarters during social media monitoring.
The video reportedly showed three to four people behaving indecently with the girl near a road and embankment in Jagat Singhpur village under Karpurigram Police Station. Police immediately began technical verification and investigation after the footage was detected.
The incident is believed to have taken place around a week before the video came to the notice of the authorities.
Police Identify Location Through Technical Verification
Given the sensitivity of the case, police carried out an immediate technical verification of the video.
The verification helped investigators establish the location where the incident allegedly occurred and identify the people seen in the footage. Police subsequently arrested all four accused within six hours.
The arrested persons are from Jagat Singhpur and Bijolia villages in the Karpurigram police station area.
Police said legal action is being taken against all four accused in accordance with the applicable law.

Case Registered Under BNS, POCSO and IT Act
A case was registered at Karpurigram Police Station on September 24 as Case No. 117/26.
According to the police, the case was registered on the basis of a police officer’s statement, considering the sensitivity of the incident and the fact that the identity of the minor could not be established.
Relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Information Technology Act have been included in the case.
Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway.
Police Warn Against Sharing the Video
Along with taking action against the accused, Bihar Police has issued a specific appeal to the public not to circulate the video on social media or other public platforms.
The police said sharing the footage could expose the identity of the minor and cause further mental and social harm to the victim.
People have therefore been advised not to download, forward, repost or otherwise circulate the video or related content.
Police also warned that publishing or circulating such material on social media or other public platforms can attract criminal action under applicable law.
The appeal is particularly aimed at preventing the further spread of sensitive material involving a minor.
Social Media Monitoring Leads to Swift Action
The case has also highlighted the role of social media monitoring in bringing sensitive incidents to the attention of law enforcement.
The video was detected during monitoring carried out by the Police Headquarters. Once it came to notice, authorities initiated technical verification to establish where the incident had occurred and identify those allegedly involved.
The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of all four accused within six hours.
