New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Limited has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central Warehousing Corporation (Central Warehousing Corporation) to enhance coal logistics, rail transportation, and supply chain efficiency across India.
The partnership, guided by the Ministry of Coal, aims to ensure uninterrupted coal supply to key sectors including power, steel, cement, and other core industries.
Focus on Strengthening Coal Logistics and Transport Network
Under the agreement, SECL and CWC will collaborate to improve coal evacuation and transportation systems through:
- Railway rake provisioning
- Dedicated rail logistics corridors
- Multimodal transport solutions
- First-mile and last-mile connectivity
- Digital logistics monitoring systems
Officials said the initiative will streamline supply chain operations and reduce logistical bottlenecks.

Boost to India’s Energy and Industrial Supply Chain
SECL, the second-largest coal producer in India, played a key role in Coal India Limited’s production milestone of over 100 million tonnes in FY 2026–27.
The company contributed more than 26.8 million tonnes of coal production during the period, reinforcing its importance in India’s energy security framework.
Strategic Collaboration for Efficient Coal Evacuation
The MoU is expected to significantly improve coal evacuation capacity and logistics efficiency, ensuring smoother transportation of coal from mines to end-user industries.
Industry experts believe the collaboration will strengthen India’s coal distribution network and support rising industrial energy demand.
Senior Leadership Present at MoU Signing Ceremony
The agreement was signed in the presence of:
- Mr. Harish Duhan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, SECL
- Mr. Santosh Sinha, Managing Director, CWC
Senior officials from both organisations attended the ceremony, including directors and general managers overseeing technical, financial, and logistics operations.

The partnership also emphasizes adoption of modern logistics practices, including:
- Digital tracking and monitoring systems
- Integrated warehousing solutions
- Improved operational transparency
- Efficient multimodal transport coordination
These measures aim to modernise India’s coal logistics ecosystem.
The SECL–CWC partnership marks a significant step toward strengthening India’s coal supply chain by integrating rail logistics, warehousing, and digital monitoring systems.
