Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh’s Vindhya region is set to receive a major railway connectivity boost, with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav scheduled to inaugurate two new rail sections covering a combined 118 kilometres on October 24.
The sections are the 53-km Satna–Devendra Nagar stretch and the 65-km Rewa–Churhat stretch, both developed under the Lalitpur–Singrauli New Rail Line Project. The leaders will also flag off a new train service between Devendra Nagar and Churhat.
A key milestone of the expansion is the connection of Sidhi district to the railway network for the first time since Independence. The new sections are expected to improve passenger movement and freight transportation while supporting industrial activity, trade, tourism and employment in the Vindhya region.

The Satna–Devendra Nagar section is expected to improve connectivity to Satna, Nagod, Devendra Nagar and neighbouring areas. Better rail access could also support local businesses and industries, particularly those associated with limestone and cement production.
Rewa–Churhat Section Connects Sidhi to Rail Network
The 65-km Rewa–Churhat section is an important addition to rail infrastructure in the region, strengthening the connection between Rewa and Sidhi.
The route passes through hilly terrain and required significant engineering work, including railway bridges and tunnels. One of its major structures is a 3.33-km-long tunnel.
With the section opening, Sidhi district will gain rail connectivity for the first time since Independence. This is expected to provide residents with an additional transport option and improve access to other parts of Madhya Pradesh.
The new connection may also facilitate the movement of mineral-based goods, including limestone, cement and clinker, supporting industrial and freight activity in the region.
New Devendra Nagar–Churhat Train Service to Be Flagged Off
Alongside the inauguration of the two sections, a new train service between Devendra Nagar and Churhat will be flagged off.
The service is expected to provide an additional travel option for people living in towns and rural areas along the route. Improved rail access could benefit students, workers, traders and other passengers travelling between settlements in the Vindhya region.
The new service will also make the newly developed railway infrastructure more accessible to local communities.
Lalitpur–Singrauli Project to Strengthen Regional Connectivity
The two sections form part of the broader Lalitpur–Singrauli New Rail Line Project, which is intended to expand railway access across the Vindhya region.
The project is significant for areas including Panna, Satna, Rewa, Sidhi and Singrauli. By extending the railway network into mineral-rich areas, it is expected to improve connections between local production centres and industrial and transport hubs.
The expansion is also expected to support economic activity by improving the movement of passengers and goods, strengthening regional trade and creating opportunities for employment and tourism.
