Buxar: SJVN Limited has marked the commercial operation of Unit-II (660 MW) of its 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project (BTPP) in Bihar. SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta inaugurated a programme at the project site in Chausa, Buxar, to commemorate the milestone.
SJVN Director (Projects) Rajesh Kumar Chandel was also present during the programme. The commissioning of the second 660 MW unit marks an important step in the development of the Buxar Thermal Power Project and is expected to contribute to Bihar’s growing energy requirements.
SJVN CMD Inaugurates Unit-II of Buxar Thermal Power Project
During the programme, Bhupender Gupta formally marked the commercial operation of Unit-II by cutting the ribbon and pressing the ceremonial inauguration button.
He also inaugurated the project’s Centralized Control Room, which will play a key role in monitoring and managing plant operations.
The SJVN CMD further visited important operational areas of the project, including the Ash Dyke, to review the plant’s operational preparedness.

Focus on Safe and Reliable Power Plant Operations
Addressing the project team, Gupta congratulated all employees and stakeholders associated with the achievement.
He said the Buxar Thermal Power Project would play an important role in meeting Bihar’s energy requirements and supporting the state’s socio-economic development.
He also urged the team to maintain a strong focus on:
- Safe plant operations
- Efficient power generation
- Reliable and consistent performance
- Operational preparedness
- Maintaining high standards of plant management
SJVN Director (Projects) Rajesh Kumar Chandel also appreciated the efforts of the project team and credited the achievement to the sustained commitment and teamwork of everyone involved.
SJVN Holds Discussions with Bihar Government Officials
During the visit, Bhupender Gupta and Rajesh Kumar Chandel met senior Bihar government officials to discuss issues related to the project and potential areas of cooperation.
The SJVN delegation met:
- Ajay Yadav, Secretary (Energy), Government of Bihar
- Sahila, District Magistrate, Buxar
The discussions covered several key issues, including:
- Land acquisition
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities
- Pumped Storage Projects (PSP)
- Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)-related matters
- Renewable power available with SJVN
- Potential investment opportunities in Bihar
The discussions focused on strengthening coordination between SJVN and the Bihar government and exploring opportunities for further investment and energy development in the state.
SJVN Reaffirms Focus on Environmental Conservation
As part of the visit, Bhupender Gupta and Rajesh Kumar Chandel also planted saplings at the project premises.
The plantation activity highlighted SJVN’s focus on environmental conservation alongside its power-generation activities.
The initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to incorporating environmental considerations into its project operations.

The 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project is located at Chausa in Bihar’s Buxar district.
The project is being implemented by SJVN Thermal Private Limited (STPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Limited.
