Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Monday carried out a major bureaucratic reshuffle, transferring 17 IAS officers and assigning them to several important departments and urban administration bodies. The administrative overhaul includes significant changes in Chennai civic governance, municipal administration, transport, finance, water resources, and social welfare departments.
The most prominent appointment in the reshuffle is that of G. S. Sameeran, who has been named Commissioner of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), replacing J. Kumaragurubaran after his 22-month tenure.
G S Sameeran to Head Greater Chennai Corporation
Before his new appointment, G. S. Sameeran was serving as Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD Board).
As Commissioner of the Greater Chennai Corporation, he will oversee civic administration, sanitation, urban infrastructure, public health, and municipal services in Tamil Nadu’s capital city.

J. Kumaragurubaran, who led the corporation for nearly two years, has been transferred as part of the broader administrative restructuring.
Gagandeep Singh Bedi and P Amudha Get Key Departmental Roles
Senior IAS officer Gagandeep Singh Bedi has been appointed Secretary to the Municipal Administration Department. He was previously serving as Secretary of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department.
P. Amudha, who had been heading the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, has now been posted as Secretary to the Food Department.
These appointments place two experienced officers at the helm of departments critical to urban governance and public distribution.
New Member Secretary for CMDA
In another significant urban planning change, A. R. Rahul Nadh has been appointed Member Secretary of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).
He replaces G. Prakash, who had served in the role since June last year.
Rahul Nadh was previously Director of Environment and Climate Change.
